My father and I over the past years have built a Christmas village under the tree with a train track. The size is 56"x12ft. He passed a few years ago and I want to keep the tradition going with my boys. Whats the best way to slowly elevate track to not cause problems with derailing?

two simple options are to use a trestle set, or woodland scenics inclines. the trestle set works well for a temporary layout as it is easy to set up and tear down, but you have to be careful you don't make the incline too steep. you want no more than about 3/8" rise per full section of track. (a 4% grade)

the woodland scenics inclines come with fixed grades of 2%, 3% or 4% but need to be glued to your tabletop. as such, they are great for a permanent layout.
