Is it possible to get reliable uncoupling & coupling using E-Z Mate couplers?

Is it possible to get reliable uncoupling & coupling using Bachmann E-Z Mate Mark II couplers with the Bachmann magnet? Thinking of building an N scale layout that will incorporate some operations and was wondering how reliable the couplers are in N scale.

Best regards,
Brian

Hi Brian,

I think that as long as they are properly mounted and adjusted to the correct height (that also applies to the uncouplers as well), you should be able to get fairly reliable operation out of them. Some folks have experienced issues with plastic centering springs developing a "set" if the cars are stored coupled together on curved track. Also, some modelers prefer the EZ Mate's knuckle spring design (like the HO Kadee #5's) over the MTL split-shank style. Both Kadee and MTL still have more variety of choices for custom installs on specific locos and cars however.

I think when used with themselves, they work fine but when mixxed with other couplers, their size is a hindrance. They are slightly larger that the other couplers out there so they tend to "clog" up the knuckle on the smaller couplers and are stiffer to couple and uncouple.
