Hello,
I plan to get a couple of Dash 8's, but I am wondering what coupler comes installed on these locos. And what DCC decoder ca I use.
Thanks!!
Keep God first in all that you do.

Stationmaster12,

It depends on what version 1996 or 2003 of the DASH8-40C you're planning on purchasing, may  I suggest checking the below website first.

As for coupler that's easy MT-MICRO-TRAINS I am not sure of the MT stock number though. Now for the decoder any of them some decoders require hard wiring some are PNP -Plug and Play.

I got one ~1-2 years ago. Had the old chunky couplers.

Would this one not be a micro trains style connector?

I need to replace my couplers, just waiting on stock coming in.

I had to solder in my decoder, fairly easy to do, unfortunately it wasn't a socket/drop in.

Yes, that is a dummy knuckle that should mate with an MT and other brands, the problem is, it won't. Those couplers end up setting too low and will not stay coupled to anything but another Bachmann dummy coupler. If a dummy coupler works for you, then look at the Red Caboose Unitmate couplers. They have the correct offset and are offered in a few different lengths.

If you want a working coupler, Micro-trains offers conversions for both versions of the Dash-8. If it is the newer version, with body mounted couplers, you may be able to make the Ezmate II couplers work but the MT couplers are the easiest and best solution.
