Bachmann CSX DCC control not working

I just purchased a Bachmann HO CSX #8833 Dark Future EMD SD40-2 Diesel from Amazon which is described with DCC Control for direction, speed and lighting. However I cannot get it to respond to the programing with the Bachmann DCC Ez Controller.

It does not move when initially on position 3 but the small noise it makes stops when I hold button 3, hold the stop button and then release. I then try to address it with button 4, the small sound returns but it will not move in either direction.

Any ideas on what I should do now?

What you are experiencing indicates you have a locomotive without a decoder installed.

Click Here to read Bachmann description of the locomotive.

You are risking serious damage to your locomotive if you keep trying to get it to operate on DCC when it lacks a decoder.

Rookie,
According to Bachmann's web store the 8833 is DCC ready (no decoder). The 8861 is DCC on board. Check your purchase with Amazon they may have sent the wrong one.
Here is the web store page...

Looking at Amazon's ad it appears it is wrong.....

I would contact Amazon and have them make good on your purchase now that I have supplied the proof you need.

I just checked Amazon for:

Bachmann HO CSX #8833 Dark Future EMD SD40-2

and it comes up as DCC Equipped.

Pull the shell and check the couplings. A decoder will have a bunch of surface mount components if there is a decoder in it.

The below PC board is for DC only.

The below is for onboard DCC

Jerry is correct. Both numbers come up as DCC equipped at Amazon. You got the DCC ready no doubt with DC adapter in place. Press #10 and it should run.
Free shipping to send it back.
I have sent back items to Amazon with no problems. Just follow their instructions.

First thing I saw was the price at Amazon that told me it is not DCC. $53

DCC equipped, $150

Make sure you write a review at Amazon.

Gee whiz, was that loco supplied and shipped by The Favorite Spot??

Another Gee Whiz: A review of this loco posted on AMAZON from 5/19/14 alerts of this very same issue-no DCC as advertised ::)

If the OP were an old hand instead of a rookie, by his own statement, I'd think he thought he was making a killing by buying his Berk for $53. As it is, I can sure understand that this was an innocent error. And, frankly, if Amazon knew of this problem from a previous transaction, I'd say that the OP should be able to return his loco and get a sound and DCC model to replace it. However, I just searched for "Bachmann HO Berkshire" and didn't find one with sound and DCC for less than $215.65.

The review was posted over 4 months ago for anyone to read who would take the time to, Doc.  I am sure you are familar with the adage, "look, before you leap"??  How about the old Wall Street one?  "The bulls make money, the bears make money and the pigs get slaughtered".

They will cover this. The return instructions are very clear as I have returned items before.
Amazon has different reasons listed.
You can print out the return label very easily.

No reason it should not be covered, but that's not the point.
The point, being missed is, no reason to be in the position to have to send it back in the first place, if not for a little research and paying attention, beforehand.  Reading is still fundamental and doing the research first can be invaluable.

And for old times sake, I'll throw out another one:  "if it's too good to be true, then it isn't".

Caveat emptor in all things.
Prior knowledge is a great help. The price was a red flag when you know the street prices.
About a dozen times I saw things in Amazon reviews that steered me away from a product.

Reading, how many come into the forums and never do any reading in the Bachmann site before posting?

Kind of doubt the OP will be back.
