Hi all. I've been thinking about getting a new steam loco for my HO 4x8
layout and can't decide between 2 Bachmann loco's.
I was going to pick up a Spectrum 2-8-0 based on the rave reviews they get for their good detailing and fantastic running capability.
Then I saw that Bachmann came out with a Berkshire loco.
My daughter who just turned 13 likes that one alot because of (what else) the polar express.
The Berk. isn't a Spectrum though and its more cash than the 2-8-0.
Is the Berkshire close enough in running quality to the 2-8-0 that its worth the extra cash or should I stick with the Spectrum?
Anyone running the Berkshire yet and if so whats your opinion of it?
Thanks for your time, and Merry Christmas!

The berkshire requires 22 inch radius but runs just as well as the 2-8-0. I'd recommned the 2-8-0 on a 4x8.

The 2-8-4 is a big locomotive, especially a Van Swerigen (sp) version.  I'm not sure mine says it requires 22" radius, but it would look better on 22 than 18.  The Polar Express locomotive just happened to be taken from PM 1225 because it was available.  Nothing in the story - or in the movie - says what it is.  And maybe there are other Polar Expresses.
Gene - and Merry Christmas to you.
