I'm doing a layout with ez track do I need to use track bed with ez track? or is it only needed for flexi? Thank

Dear MJ,
EZ Track features a built-in roadbed.
A light covering os ballast material can result in a very realistic appearance.
Stay safe, and
Have fun!

I have used the above ballast method successfully on a diorama or two.

One simple thing I've done on my main layout is to paint the entire track (including the sides of the rails) burnt umber. Obviously you need to be very careful not to mess up switches. And don't use sandpaper to clean paint of the top of the rails.

It may not win any awards from Model Railroader Magazine, but it looks just fine on my slightly abstract layout.
