DCC upgrade

I received a Bachmann HO American 4-4-0 (item no. 51124) locomotive for Christmas and it's not DCC equipped. Can it be upgraded to run on my DCC layout?

If it's new, it should be DCC ready.

It appears to be a STANDARD version.....not sure how hard a DCC conversion could be. It definitely is not equipped with a plug in.

I was visiting the train store yesterday, spending my hard earned Christmas money and i heard this exact conversation going on between the owner and a customer. DCC is a magnet. Just like myself, the conversion happened right there in the store and the customer walked out with a DCC locomotive. The price difference was not enough to discourage the buyer.
