I should be starting my new layout at the end of the summer and I have been testing the track systems and I have picked EZ track from Bachmann mainly because it widely available and from testing it I'm very impressed how nice it is. I checked out all the others but EZ track worked for me.
Am I making the right choice? Is it durable?

The reason I am using it that for me now I have built many layouts over the years but now at my age 78 I need easy and although I want a nice layout I can't do what I have done in the past. My layout will be 13x5 give or take and I'll be running some steam and modern diesels, prototypical and fantasy. The steam will be NYC Hudsons. my dad was a NYC steam engineer and he ran mostly the hudsons. Its going to be my last layout so I decided to honor my dad!!

Thanks for listening,

Dave

The only time I'd think EZ track would not be a good choice for a layout like you want would be if it was in outside coastal air.  I had such a layout and it deteriorated electrically at most contact points in about three years from the salt air. I had to replace the track and I used a competitive brand only because it was smaller code 83 rail and looked better to me. This may not matter to you.

In contrast, my actual main layout is now 18 years old.  I constructed the main line with EZ track because I wantef to be operating in a week or two, I didn't feel like spending six months building something before I could run.  I have not had any electrical issues anywhere in all that time.  I did find that a couple of switch points needed slight adjustment with a file.  Also., I had number five switches with metal frogs that the frogs sat a molecule higher than the adjacent rail.  In particular, steam engines would bump up onto the frog like on a hilltop breaking contact so I had to slightly grind the frog down with a Dremel to a little bit. But if you run diesels I don't think that'll be a problem.

I think your choice is fine.

Like Trainman203, I've used EZ-Track for many years. I've had a layout as large as 16'x16' u-shaped using 4' panels. I scaled back a bit to 16'x8' u shaped. EZ-Track makes it EZ (no pun intended) to make changes. The only problem I encountered was the 'regular' turnouts with the plastic frogs while running short wheel base engines. Some of these I 'fixed' by running pickup wires to the tender. All in all I'm happy with my choice.

When I put together part of the local historical society's Christmas train garden, I used EZTrack. The options and combinations for the nickel-silver track are just about endless, and I've not had to replace a single piece over 4 years of it running 16 hours a day for over 2 months then taken apart, stored for a little over 9 months, then put together again

Here's my 2 cents' regarding EZ Track.    I've had EZ track since 2015.  Being an intermediate modeler, which to me means, one who isn't working the model to perfection, or expect to maintain the layout in one configuration for a long time. With that said, I my choice to use EZ track is mainly because I am constantly changing my layout.  If I get tired of an industry at a siding, then I can easily remove that industry and replace it with something else or run more track in the area.  EZ track is easily removed and replaced. Mine you, that I've broken some of the connection pieces taking them apart and sometimes connecting then, but that doesn't stop the ease of changing, adding, and modifying my track layout.

In comparison, the work that goes into laying, say 'Atlas track, flex track, and some others.  You would need to lay roadbed, glue it, lay track, anchor that, and with that it becomes more permanent than the EZ track any day.

So, If you put together a layout, and need to change it, EZ track to me hands down, is the best.  Is it long lasting?  I've been using my EZ track for 10 years and only replaced a few steel track and ones where I broke the connectors.

Hope that helps.

Thanks guys it gives me a sense that using EZ TRACK will be just fine.
