Changes to US Shipping via Blaine Washington – US Customs update

48-Hour Pre-Tariff Sale

At Euro Rail Hobbies, we have always endeavoured to give our customers the most cost-effective shipping options. For at least 20+ years, we have been shipping our international mail shipments through US Post from Blaine, Washington. Sadly, this is coming to an end, effective August 29th as a result of new US customs regulations imposed by the current government administration for all global imports.
Our US Customers have always enjoyed the benefit of bringing goods through the border, duty and tax free for anything under $800.00 USD. This was claimed under Section 321 or known as the 'de minimus rule'. This means that all low-value imports, (less than $800.00 USD) previously exempt under Section 321, will now require formal brokerage customs entry and be subject to applicable duties.
As one can imagine, this will significantly impact both sides of our border, from the exporter shipping into the USA and the importer, US customers. In the meantime, we wanted to make our customers aware of these new shipping regulations and their impact. August 27th will be our last export to Blaine, WA. unless something changes before hand. We will be resorting back to Canada Post or Courier for all of our international mail shipping. This will then be subject to any applicable duties & taxes, however, through Canada Post, there will not be a formal brokerage fee from Fed-Ex Brokerage as an example. This is still under investigation by Canada Post as to how exactly they will handle this and its most likely there will be a nominal charge for clearance. Canada Post will advise us as soon as they have finalized their systems.
In the meantime, we have placed a 48-hour Sale on the website for anyone wishing to take advantage of Pre-tariff prices and US Post shipping. We will manually deduct the additional discounts from your orders as they come in. We are shipping all available orders as quickly as possible prior to this deadline. We do hope our customers will continue their loyal patronage of our business and realize that this is obviously out of our control. We will continue to keep you posted as things may change again. Let's hope for the best possible outcome.
