The Soundtraxx web site suggest using 227110 T1000 Galloping Gosse for small diesel switchers.

Has anyone else contemplated such an application or is there a better alternative?

Hi Tom

I just talked to George at Soundtraxx. The Soundtraxx 827110 is a full size TSU-1000 decoder, with appropriate sounds for the Rio Grande Southern goose and small diesel switchers.

The 827010 is a micro Tsunami, TSU-750. Sound was recorded from a Pace Arrow, similar to a small diesel engine used in a one ton pickup or large van.

I have the GE 70 ton, installation would require removing both the weight and circuit board, and hard wiring the decoder. A tiny speaker might be shoe-horned into the cab.

Installation might be better suited to a SW switcher, I don't have one at hand.

Hope this helps.

Bob,

SW1500 uses an EMD 645. Not good for the sound of a Goose.

Maybe I need to explore sound decoders intended for N scale such as MRC's generic diesel or look into a Proto2000 SW900 which can be acquired with factory sound.

The Loksound #72443 is a GE 44t loco.

Price about the same as Tsunami.

The decoder is about the same size as a micro tsunami.

You might have to find a smaller speaker.

It will be a tight fit, but it is the correct sound for the 44t.

You can listen to the sounds here.

Scroll down to the 44 ton GE and click on the arrow.

Are you aware that the 70 Ton GE has only one 6 cylinder engine,
and the 44 Ton GE has two V8 engines?

Totally different sounds.

I was not aware of that fact. I need to think about how the 44 would fit in with my operating plan.
