Large / K27 counterweights
March 08, 2010, 01:57:42 AM
Mr BACH man, Ive today received my new K27  G scale and have read that the red outer wrap end has an indication marking that the counterweights are of the modified type. This one has a small red dot sticker under the loco description ?? Could you explain this so I will know whether to order or not the modified parts.. GRAHAM (AUSTRALIA)

Hi from Australia, I havent got a Mallet 2-6-6-2 yet, and always keep a eye out when watching old movies for steamers. I watched an old movie recently, with Kirk Douglas " THE BIG TREES" towards the end along comes a 2-6-6-2 logging mallet,,I wonder if there are other movies with them in...GRAHAM..

I smile at some of your complaints about service from Bachmann. I have been waiting for two years for a warranty replacement motor for a tram and gave up on it last year. We here in AUSTRALIA are just ignored by all the big three in USA .GRAHAM.

Mr BACH MAN >>>Well after all the fuss I made over the counterweight  crankpin spacer being wider than the origonals,I fitted my replacement weights today and as I inspected each old weight I noticed wear marks on them where the side rods  had been rubbing, against them, hence the wider spacer to keep the rods away from the weights. Only trouble now is that #3 weights that dont get replaced have nasty marks on them ,my loco has only done less than 30 minutes running .I would suggest everyone check #3 weights after a few hours running.  Regards to aLL Graham.

ThanksTony, It looks as though no one else is worried about the difference including The Administrator.I wonder why the difference, was it a mistake ,or is there a reason,If it was intentional ,a note in the pack of new weights would have explained. I suppose we will never know, SO I will complete my replacements and hope all will be OK,  Regards Graham (Australia)

Mr Bach man,Am I the only one to make a point about the counterweight crank pins being a different length on the new weights to the old weights.? If we were to replace four on each side it wouldnt matter,Regards Graham,

Hi Gator, re your problem with the universals of the railtruck. There is an article on this problem in April 2006 of Garden Railway magazine with a follow up of a remedy of the universal problem in June 2006 issue. Might be worth looking at before you send the truck away. Regards GRAHAM.

Hi Mr Bach man,I see that mickb has the same weights as me,Its not so much as how it runs now but the out of alignment will have an effect on it in the future against normal wear. Are all the weights the same as I received,or were there some with the same dimensions as the origonals. I really would like to get a ruling on this mistake before I complete the changeover of weights on my loco. regards Graham.

Thanks Mick, I will see if I can get an answer from Bachmann as I am not satisfied that after a while having them running out of line there would be irregular wear. You might be right about different loco batch weights.I dont know of anyone here in Auz that has a K27 to compere with. Regards Graham.
