russm, really glad you posted, been thinking of using PVC my self as where I live at the moment could be more temporary than I'd like. You say you haven't had problems with movement??  What region of the country are you in and how long has this section been standing?  I have winter to contend with and my fear is freezing and breakage of pipes or weakening them with drain holes. I guess a foot or so of gravel in the bottom of the hole would take care of drain problems,.. but then so would simply capping the up rights I guess...... sorry....been think typing again ;D...S.B.

az2 makes a good point, do not anchor to the joints, it WILL be a mess. Is the wall level? If not , do you want the track to be level [ witch will look off against the wall ]or do you want the track to look "right" against the wall. Will your neighbor have anything bad to say if you drill holes in said shared wall? Consider NM's idea and build a trestle in front of the wall and paint a back drop on it. You could get your straight part built and simply sink posts where they would keep the track against the wall, hide them with a shrub. If you are set on attaching to the wall.. most hardware stores will be able to point you in the direction of "Tap cons" They are blue in color and made for masonry, ask a pro about putting these in block, you may be better off putting a couple short posts in the ground as I have found hollow block has a tendency to deteriorate around a hole in what seems like an awful short time if left to the weather and not sealed. I wouldn't recommend using household shelving brackets [ L brackets ]same problem if the weather gets to them. Posts and wood [all pressure treated] will most likely give you the longest life with minimal maintenance [ on your road bed ] Hope this helps more than I think it did  S.B.

I found out a while back that Bachmann prototypes are painted with Krylon spray paint(from walmart and such) and the production factory matches that paint as best they can. To date, and I'm sure Someone will disagree, I have found Krylon to match up pretty good with what I've done. Start with Krylon's web page, they have color samples there and will get you in the ballpark. It shouldn't have to be said, but I will, test on something else first to be sure......'G'

I think battery is the way to go as the lights don't flicker or shut down "till I want them too, and with the wife grading every little thing right now ....flicker is bad...ya know?? No disrespect intended  AND A HAPPY TRAIN TO ALL ......HO,HO,HO ;)  or something like that. Later All..  SB

Bachmann sells a kit to put battery powered lights on board. Go to the home page select Big Haulers, then parts and service,Large scale and then passenger cars. Kit is listed for  $10.00.  Opening them up is easy.Remove the trucks and all the screws on the bottom and CAREFULLY pop the bottom off by pulling up(with car up side down) on the floor while disengaging the two tabs at either end. On reassembly be sure the bathroom is in(I keep forgetting it) and the stove is in the right place. While your in there you might as well paint the interior and seats to be more realistic and maybe add some people. Before ordering parts, check that their not battery powered by 9volt in the bottom and if they are that the bulbs survived shipping. I would also recommend reading some of the other posts on lighting to decide if you want to keep the track picups on the one car or convert it.     Hope this helps.

Large / Re: New Christmas Pass Cars Needed
September 28, 2010, 10:10:07 AM
GovB,         I have been working on a Christmas train of my own this summer, Doneldon is right .  Starting with some scratched up used cars off eBay and some Krylon spay paint, I have made a pretty nice (I think) Christmas set based around a Bachmann Raindeer transport like the one in your picture. A combine and an observation off eBay and a 0-4-0 with a slope back tender and the rain deer car are all I room for right now, but your only limeted by your space and as you said...whats one more??!!  I used Krylon indoor/outdoor Gloss Ivory, Gloss Banner red, and gloss Hunter Green and they match almost perfectly. Some home made water slide decals and a little clear coat and I'll be about done, for now. I have plans to add a coach, box car, flat car and at least one gondola (and a bigger loco) when the layout permits. Go nuts, have fun with it and if you don't like 'em...eBay.   Long winded...Yes but hope it helps ;D

Would be happy to talk ...but as of now, I am still collecting piece's and planing the overall design of the lay out. How ever, I do have a small oval of track, 5 loco's( only 2 Bachmann, so far), a costom Christamas set(my design, based around a NP&S Raindeer transport) , a train for the wife(goodies of sorts) that started with a Bachmann 4-6-0 Santa Fe and a Liberty Bell LTD set I got with the 2 extra cars(baggage, combine, pullman, obs.) Love the PRR and coal fired steam stuff. My HO stuff is heavy with Bachmann, as well as my N. But being a diehard LVRC guy, My pride and joy is my ART. RS-3 in my own paint. Bachmann REALLY needs to put out some ALCO Diesels, or ALCO's in general(RS-3 PLEASE) ;D But like I said ...ask away.  Gerry
