Hi Joe's Mom---

You can purchase a William's Tru-Blast II horn/bell kit---item # 00245 ($43.95 from William's).  The horn & bell give, IMO, very good realistic sounds.  It's an EZ install for someone even w/ minimal skills.

Can't help you on the age of your son's SD-90.  It's probably pre Bachman since the cab number is different than the current WbB SD-90.

Good luck--I'm sure your son will enjoy this loco for years to come :).

I love my WBB FA-1 engines in Rock Island colors. I had to find an Atlas O Trainman RI caboose, because no one else seems to offer a decent Rock Island caboose. Fortunately, Walthers still had some in stock.

Funny-----I too had a heck of a time finding a really good looking RI caboose.  Took a few months B/4 I found a MTH RI Bay Window caboose.  Once I had the caboose, I then ordered the RI GP-9 loco.  The WbB GP-9 and the MTH caboose really do compliment each other.

Just rec'd my new WbB Rock Island GP-9 loco today.  Can't wait to put her on the tracks for a go around.  Unfortunately, my layout is partially torn up so the tryout will have to wait a few days or so.  She certainly is a beaut....  I feel like a kid again.....

Currently I have a WbW FP-45 and a WbB GP-38, w/ a GP-9 on order and due next week.  My nod goes to the "38" so far (seems to have a bit more pulling power).  That may change once the GP-9 arrives and starts moving around the tracks.

Dear GTBob,

Go to Lionel.com and try to find it in (or buy one from) their online catalog.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik

Yes--you are correct.  Lionel no longer sells this item.  However, I had no trouble finding new ones with online Lionel parts suppliers.  Think I paid $16 ea plus shipping.

Speaking of SD-45's, I am missing a set of weights that attach to the frame. Does anybody know where I can buy a set of weights? Also looking for metal unflanged wheels for a Williams SD-40 or SD-45.

Lee F.

The weights are just pieces lead that pretty much fill the hollowed out fuel tank.  I'd check w/ my local hardware store or fishing supply shop.  Can't help w/ the wheels.

Good luck,

Bob

Hello  Forum,

Newbie here and just wanted to know if anyone knew the last year or years that Williams offered the GP9 in B&M (black, white, and blue) roadname and if it was ever offered with anything other than just horn only.  How difficult is it to upgrade from the horn only to TBII?

Thanks,
Bernard

Hello and Welcome.

It's an EZ install.  Remove old horn and board, then replace same w/TB2.  Red wire to center roller (hot) and black wire to ground (frame).  Make sure your trans has a bell button....

Good luck

Try here:

I'm pretty sure the rugged rail series item numbers start with "33-" ...

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik

Joe---

Not to steal someones thread, but, checked above site looking for a Rock Island caboose (I've been looking for one for several months).  KRRB had exactly what I was looking for, so I bought it.  Just wanted to say thank you for posting the KRRB site. :)

Dear Bob,
As I recall, the ones I've run at shows start short hood forward,  but I'll check with Three Rail.
Have fun!

Williams Train Lovers---

I really appreciate all the above info, but, I am not interested in what real RR ran the GP-9 w/ the long nose foreward or backward or both ways.

My original question was (is):  When the WbB GP-9 starts up is the short hood or the long hood at the leading end of the loco?  I'm sure someone out there, who owns a WbB GP-9, can answer my question......

Again, I'm thankful for all the input---But, I really would appreciate someone giving me an answer to my question.  Thank you very much....

Regards,

GTBob

P.S.  Perhaps "The Bach Man" could be of help here.

Joe--thanks for your input.

But, I still need to know if a newer WbB GP-9 starts moving (at start-up) w/ the short hood OR the long hood at the leading end??????

I'm sure someone out there has the answer........

Thanks,

Bob
