N / GP40 runs in opposite direction as other locomotives?
December 20, 2010, 11:05:08 AM
I recently got a Bachmann GP40 (in Conrail scheme) second hand from someone. When I took it home, it ran fine, but I noticed that it goes in the opposite direction as what the transformer is pointed to. I opened it up, took a look inside and cleaned it and greased it, and thought the problem would have been solved. But when I tried to use it as a helper locomotive on a freight, the problem persisted. While one locomotive was pulling towards the right direction (the one the transformer was set to), the GP40 was pulling in the opposite direction.

Can anyone tell me if there's anything I can do to make it run in the right direction? I know I can just send it in to Bachmann but money's a bit tight right now and I'd rather do any repairs myself. Thanks if anyone can help!

N / Micro-Trains coupler conversion for 2-8-0?
July 26, 2010, 02:46:44 PM
I'm converting all of my old Rapido-equipped locomotives over to either Micro-Trains or Bachmann dummy knuckles. Does anyone know if there's a Micro-trains coupler that will work on the pilot of the Spectrum 2-8-0? I currently have the Rapido coupler installed on it, but I'd like to somehow get a knuckle coupler onto it since I use it a lot as a helper on freights. Does Micro-Trains make a conversion kit for the pilot coupler, or is it just for the rear coupler? Thanks to anyone that can help.

Columbus is two and a half hours away from me in the Youngstown area. What HO sets did they have left?

From what I saw, two Nor'easter sets and a Chattanooga set with a beat up box, the plastic was ripped away from the locomotive.

I just visited my local Hobby Lobby today (Columbus, OH) and all model railroading items are at least 75% off, train sets and all. I was lucky to pick up their last N Scale Empire Builder set, got it for less than $100 with the discounts. I don't know if anyone else is in the Columbus area but it's all going fast - they only had about 3 HO sets left and no track for either N or HO.

Could you please let me know which steam engines and diesel engines are available with the new magnetic N scale couplers?

I received a replacement Class J 4-8-4 and AUX tender little over a week ago, and they both came with the new couplers. I think that Bachmann may be putting them on all new locomotives being released or shipped.

N / New locomotive won't run?
June 18, 2010, 11:58:44 PM
I bought an N Scale N&W J with AUX tender and I can't seem to get it to run. The track is clean, everything is wired right, the locomotive is greased and oiled, and it's not derailed. I just can't seem to get it to run. I just got it today and put it on the test track after making sure it was greased and oiled. Does anyone know what I could do to make it run? I've already called the Bachmann service department and am waiting on a call from them, but I'd really like to see if I can get it running myself. Thanks in advance if you can help.

They did at one point. It was modeled after the B&O #99. Often called a docksider.

I actually don't mean a docksider, I mean something that looks like this, rather than a docksider:

N / Vulcan 0-4-0 Saddle Tank in N Scale?
March 10, 2010, 08:32:03 PM
After seeing the new announcement about HO Scale 0-6-0 saddle tank locomotives, I started thinking about this. What if Bachmann ever made a model of the Vulcan Locomotive Works 0-4-0 saddle tank in N Scale? It could be modeled after famous tank engines, such as Flagg Coal #75. What would you guys think if Bachmann ever made one of these? I know for sure that I'd have one of them running on my layout.
