Title: Command Plus CV Setting Capabilities
Post by: Alastair on August 19, 2023, 01:45:45 PM
Can Bachmann's Command Plus be used to set CVs? If so how? There's no guidance on the internet or YouTube.

Hi Alastair,

The E-Z Command Plus cannot be used to set CVs in most instances.

Models with a TCS decoder with Audio Assist technology are designed to change decoder settings using just the address/function buttons 0-9 on DCC systems such as the E-Z Command Plus. Direct modification of CVs otherwise requires another manufacturer's DCC system or a software utility.

I use E-Z Command to run my layout.
I bought a Digitrax PR4 to program the addresses and CV's on a separate piece of track.

So if I understand you correctly, I can set up a separate short section of track to program the CV values of equipment using a decoder like Digitrax.

Yes. That PR4 will do it. You have to use a computer with Windows or MAC.

How quaint!
This is how I provide support to my EZ command controllers (Model 44901), changing my locomotives addresses and/or CV settings.  I do not have the Command Plus (Model 44933).
I use a separate track (EZ track) connected to one of my sidelines separated by isolators with a switch to connect (energize) that sideline when I'm not programming.  When I program I use the Broadway CV setter and/or the address setter.  Having these to modules I do not need to have a computer to make changes to my locomotives. (Click below to see these models)

Address Changer (Model 1020) (https://broadway-limited.com/cdn/shop/products/BLIAddressChanger4withnumbers.png?v=1599750371&width=1000)

CV Setter (Model 1148) (https://broadway-limited.com/cdn/shop/files/CV_Setter_Mockup.png?v=1721051955&width=800)

Sometime in the future, I'm going to put the programming track inside my locomotive maintenance shed where I can use the Bachmann EZ riders (42901) to program and/or change my locomotives addresses or CV settings.  And of course, have wiring to that track connecting the two Broadway modules.
