Large / Columbia 2-4-2 loco historic paint versions ?
August 08, 2012, 09:39:15 PM

Dear Mr. Bachmann and Loco Bill:

In addition to:

White Pass & Yukon Railroad

Union Pacific

Were there any other roadnames for the woodburner version of the 2-4-2 Columbia loco ( predecessor to the Indy ) ?

Would you please quote the product number with the roadname?

Is the axle spacing of the saddle tank porter the same as the 2-4-2 Columbia such that the drive and metal side rods could be used to upgrade the 2-4-2 Columbia loco?

What is the diameter of the saddle tank smaller drivers ?

I am hoping that the Green DRGW J&S coaches will be made available this year.

Thank you,

Norman

Large / Bachmann Little Hauler loco
August 05, 2012, 03:01:14 AM
Dear Mr. Bachmann:

Will the new Little Hauler loco have piston rods and piston drive rods? These rods are abscent in the initial advertising photo.

If not, will Bachmann offer these rods as a separate add on item?

Thank you,

Norman

Dear Mr. Bachmann:

The battery operated locomotives which I owned as a child had a "squeeze" bulb which when activated provided a "puff" of air into the smoke unit to provide synchronised "puffing smoke". If these inexpensive battery operated locomotives could have this feature, why not the Bachmann large scale locomotives? I realise that the "squeeze" bulb would eventually need replacing but spare bulbs could be made available.

Thank you,

Large / open coach trolley cars, new product?
June 05, 2012, 02:36:25 AM
Dear Mr. Bachmann:

Would Bachmann introduce a new trolley coach using the United Traction open trolley with end platforms as per the J&S 12 window coaches?

I was researching the WW&FRR online.

The Bachmann United Traction open trolley is surprisingly accurate. Built by Jackson & Sharp.

The Jackson & Sharp 12 window coaches are as per the WW&FRR Jackson & Sharp "short coaches". The only difference is the missing platform end windows.

I guess I will need to buy a few United Traction open trolley units and then later remove the drive motor to then use them as open coaches with the installation of Jackson & Sharp coach end platforms.

I am pleasantly surprised that both the 1:22.5 trolley car and J&S coach are accurate models.

Large / Visit to the WW&F RR this summer?
June 03, 2012, 01:37:30 AM
Dear Mr. Bachmann:

This summer, could yourself and Lee Riley visit the WW&F RR ?

WW&F #10 and WW&F #1 ( 0-4-4T Porter with inclined cylinders ) would make for two very interesting models. I guess these would need to be produced in the ON30 line, although I would prefer 1:20.3 models running on O gauge track.

Enjoy your summer,

Large / Godchaux Sugar Company #1
February 19, 2012, 01:18:58 AM
Dear Mr. Bachmann:

Here is Godchaux Sugar Company #1

http://www.hawkinsrails.net/steam/gsc/gsc.htm

Here is Disneyland Railroad #3 Fred Gurley at New Orleans Square - 2009

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GH5I9DhETLg

The Fred Gurley and the Ward Kimball are two locos I would like Lee Riley to design and market as Baldwin factory original built locos. Bachmann could also then market these two locos through the Disney retail system.

With all of the past, present and future Disneyland guests viewing these locos alive and running there should be a good demand for these two models in both the Baldwin original version and the prettied up Disneyland version.

Dear Mr. Bachmann:

Can Lee Riley see what tooling of the Porter and the Indy he can combine to produce a freelance loco similar to the

KISO FOREST RAILWAY 0-4-2T loco #6  at the California State RR Museum ?

http://trains.nute.ws/0-4-2/KFR6.htm

Sell the model with a Radeley Hunter or diamond stack additional spare stack.

This model would also be very attractive as a freelance wood burner with fluted domes and box oil headlamp. All parts from the American 4-4-0 product.

Large / Spectrum 2-6-0 mogul front axle spacing?
February 01, 2012, 03:19:11 AM
Dear Mr. Bachmann:

What is the spacing between the two front axles of the 2-6-0 Mogul ( the sister locomotive to the American 4-4-0 )

Thank you

Norman

#53
Dear Mr. Bachmann:

Here is a prototype example which could be modeled using the existing Industrial Mogul and Porter tooling:

http://www.ironhorse129.com/Prototype/SteamClass2004/Vulcan/vulcan_Forney.htm

Lee Riley likes logging locomotives and that is an attractive logging  locomotive. I did not know that attractive logging locomotives existed. "Attactive" and "logging" seem to be a contradiction in terms!

Only the fuel bin and cab/fuel bin floor need to be tooled if a summer cab version is produced ( my preference ).

All of the other parts, except for the arc headlamp, exist in your tooling inventory.

Definitely a future kitbash project for myself.

The Norfolk Lumber Company loco No. 1 has three domes as per the Indy

while the Otranto Lumber Company loco "HARRY" has two domes which would require a tooling modification.

Gloss black loco hauling a string of six light weight logging disconnects would make a nice consist.

Large / Bachmann Indie wood burner ?
January 22, 2012, 03:19:11 AM
Dear Mr. Bachmann:

Will the 2-6-0 Indie ever be issued in the wood burner style with maroon paint and fluted domes as per the previous
2-4-2 Columbia loco?

http://www.girr.org/girr/tips/tips4/columbia_tips.html

Thank you

Norman

#55
Dear Mr. Bachmann:

My additional request to the Green J&S DRGW coaches is for the 82596 Porter loco to be reissued as a

-   2-4-0 with tender

and as a

-   2-4-4T loco

with the rear sand dome deleted and the steam dome and front sand dome moved towards the cab.

The previous version of the Indy as a 2-4-2 loco with tender was similar to this but the boiler sat very high. I would like the low level position of the Porter style boiler.

If the DRGW green J&S coaches are made, could you have the art department first view the Accucraft DRGW green J&S coaches so that the railroad lettering on the letter board is correct?

Thank you

Large / Lynn locomotive
January 19, 2012, 12:21:12 AM
Dear Mr. Bachmann:

The return of the Lynn is a tempting purchase to model an 2-4-2T loco similar to the HLW 2-4-4T loco La Porte.

I like the low level mounted smokebox. That is the height that I wanted the Indy's smokebox to have been at.
I also like the Lynn cab side window with the window divided mid length.

Just need an Indy boiler and cut off the rear boiler section aft of the centre steam dome.
Remove the air compressor.
Install a cowcatcher, peak roof on the cab ( possibly from the 4-4-0 ) , box headlamp from the 4-4-0, slide the cab and fuel bin with base forward to create a narrow gauge 2-4-4T loco similar to a WW&F loco.

Not that much work for Lee Riley to create such a loco using this Lynn locomotive.

This should be a good seller for Bachmann. I may buy one to model into a WW&F style loco.

Large / 82596 0-4-0 metal gears?
January 15, 2012, 09:31:51 PM
Dear Mr. Bachmann:

Does the latest Porter,  82596  0-4-0  , have metal gears?

Is there a specific letter or revison code on the box exterior to ensure that I receive the latest version with metal gears?

Large / Bachmann 2-4-2 to 2-4-4 conversion
December 12, 2011, 01:58:56 AM

Dear Mr. Bachmann:

Here is a general idea of a Bachmann Bachmann 2-4-2 to 2-4-4 conversion which I would like to see you do with the Indy 2-6-0 to represent the Disneyland Ward Kimball loco built by Baldwin and marketed by Bachmann as a Baldwin factory loco as originally released from the Baldwin factory without the Disneyland paint such that it could be marketed as a standard Bachmann product of an original Baldwin factory product with one sand dome (not two sand domes).
