first of all, do not put your email address in a message. online bots can find messages on the internet and get your email address. scammers will look for you. if you set up you account here the correct way, members can email you by clicking on your name in the message. Most people here do not know about that or they hide their email address like I do.
clean the old grease of the gears with a toothpick. apply labelle gear oil. just a few drops. lubrication is a film of grease or oil, not flooded with grease or gear oil. labelle gear oil is thick almost like grease.

if you like working with electronics, here are some ideas. the stuff is probably at radio shack. these are simple transistor switches and can draw the voltage from a decoder light connection. draws very little from the light circuit. you would have to figure out where to get 12 volts dc from the decoder. make sure you have a meter to measure with.

usually ddc equipped means a decoder in the loco. dcc ready usually means the loco is ready for a decoder.
there are variations in both definitions. some dcc ready have a connector for the decoder . some do not. you have to hardwire the decoder. some are plug and play. some are not.
some have a 9 connector. some have a 8 pin connector.
dcc with sound is a whole new game.
if you spend some time looking around the web, you find a lot of details about these words.

the disney locomotives were built by baldwin in the 1920s for a ng railroad in mexico. the locos were modified by disney and converted to oil burners for safety and convenience of the park.

you should be able to see the colored wires where they are soldered to the plug, orange is for pin 1.
Red is for pin 8. standard nmra 8 pin plug wires. there should be some kind of indicator for pin 1 on the pc board socket.

i use cfl's in table lamps and 2r3014 cfl spot lights. fourteen watt cfl's and replaces 65 watt spots. Four swivel celing lamps for pictures on walls in family room. Five spots in kitchen. the spots use to be incandescent with dimmers. took out dimmers and put in cfl's. cfl's do not like dimmers.
Picked up all cfl's at home depot

the correct way the loco will run forward when you select forward. The wrong way and it will run in reverse when you select forawrd. no damage. nmra designed it like this to prevent problems.

i do not know what "period" you want but many coal fired locos in the 1800s had straight stacks like the 4-6-0.
also the low driver 4-6-0 would look a little better than the high driver. the low driver has a more "period" tender than the high driver 4-6-0. but it is your railroad
