General Discussion / Re: signs and towers
May 20, 2007, 10:16:04 PM

Towers for train controls were not common in yards.  Most yards just had a yardmaster's tower so he could see what was going on.  Each end of the say XXXXe or XXXXXw.  You will need to know which direction your railroad run.  Like the Santa Fe ran east and west.  However most people know that you go north from Dallas to get to Oklahoma City.  But on the railroad the train would be eastbound.

I don't know why you would want to use more than one power pack.  Now if you are using one power supply, you can make a cheap test from an car tail light.  If you take one wire one one side of a gap and the other on the other side of the gap (on the side rail)  If it lights up you have it wired wrong.

All you need to do is take couple of gears out so you fave free wheeling trucks, and disconnect the the motor.  Save all the parts so you can put them back when you want another power unit.

If you don't already know it.  Every oil company does not ;make lube oil.  Every part on a GM or Ford car maynot be made by them.  Sear's does not make washing machines, Walmart does not produce egg and milk.  I often cost too much to do it yourself.   Now I can have you make a product for me and put my name on it.  We both  make money off of the deal.  That  is life.

correct. the foam is 1 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch.  instead of 1 inch and 1/2 inch.

I have never used Dow Blue extruded polystyrene foam.  I want to use it for part of my upperl level.  This will be either 12 or 16 inches wide.  I have one sheet of 1 inch and two sheets of 1/2 inch.  I was wondering if it would work to make a fram of 1 by 1s with 1/4 inch plywood. then put the foam in that.  Do you mount the raodbed right on top of the foam or do you need a sub roadbed.

I think the Pennsylvannia Railroad Museum is one of the best.  It is a must to any and all Pennsylvannia Railroad fans, which I am not.  It is too bad that a t1 was not saved.  I know of no other railroad that is covered like the PRR.

Gene,  look at the switch points.   There is a tab holding the rails down.  Lift this up and slide the rail out.  Do this on both sides.  The bar will come out.  Turn it around  and side the rails back in place.  That is all there is to it.

Oh he is just tring to be another John Allen.  Have you tried training it to switch cars yet.

Maybe I am a little late getting this in, but I just want to say "the more I use the new forum the more I like it.  It sure saves a lot of time over the old one. "

It is a shame that more steam locomotives were not saved.  No prr t1s, no NYC 4-6-4s or 4-8-4.  Santa Fe 3460 cut up.  No Santa fe 2-8-2s, 4-8-2s or large 2-10-2s.
We have the only 2-10-2 saved and it is one of the small 900 class.
