General Discussion / selling

You keep hearing not to buy on Ebay.  Being 87 I need to start selling models that I will never get around to using.  Where is a good place to sell them.

Just wondering why IRM 2-10-0 would be pulling a 135 car coal train.  Was it just to see if they could do it?

General Discussion / plastic cement
May 20, 2017, 10:43:56 AM
Some time back some one posted what they used for cement plastic parts together.  I thought it was MSDS, doing a search of MSDS had it for track and wheel cleaning.  What was it that they used for a cheap plastic cement?

HO / 9 pin decoders
December 27, 2014, 10:49:56 PM
Bachmann uses the 8 pin decoder.  I noted looking for an 8 pin decoder that most of them on Ebay were either hard wire or nine pin.   Is the nine pin the thing of the future?

General Discussion / Strasburg railroad
December 21, 2014, 10:15:48 PM
This is a question for someone that lives around the Strasburg railroad.  The January trains mag. has a picture of #90 on a new bridge which was built to support the increasing freight traffic.  What and how much freight traffic do they have?  It has been about years since I was there and they only one or two cars and a team track.

In the past I have heard of using a starter set controller as a slave. At the time they were talking about an atlas unit.  Does anyone here know what they were talking about?

General Discussion / Wellington, Washington.
June 20, 2014, 12:21:31 AM
My daughter took me up to Wellington Washington today.  It is very interesting. The trail markers tell about the operation of the switch back, the tunnel , the engine house, water tower and coal tower.  We walked thought the snow shad and read the history of Wellington.  It is worth you time to see it if you are ever inthat part of Washington.  Do a Google search of Wellington Washington.

General Discussion / CB&Q 4-8-4 fan trip
December 25, 2012, 10:25:14 PM
I was doing a search and ran across a flange lubricator.  This brought back to mind of the first fan trip I was on.  It was the second day of the first fan trips out of Kansas City, Mo.  We went to St Joe and turned east went we got to a wye that rout us back to KC on another track.  One of the men who also took the first trip said that on the first trip the CB&Q had told the track gang to grease The rails so the 4-8-4 could get around it without too much flange wear.  So they went out and greased the top of the rails.  They ended up uncoupling the train from the locomotive and running it back and forth until they felt they could get enough traction to full the train around it.   The second day we had no trouble going about two miles per hour.

HO / alco 2-6-0
January 02, 2012, 10:46:06 PM
The Alco 2-6-0 got some great reviews on another forum that usually trash Bachmann.  It is a good looking locomotive.  I just don't know why they can't get the correct numbers on Santa Fe steam.  9441  was a 2-8-0

General Discussion / A look at history
July 20, 2011, 10:59:34 PM
I was doing a search and came upon these two films of the Rock Island in 1950.  I was not around the Rock Island much while they were still using steam.   Do a search on you tube wheels of progress -a 1950 Rock Island railroad film pt1 and pt2  These were films put out by the R I and you will see things that are no more.

General Discussion / No room of a layout.
June 26, 2011, 04:48:49 PM
I had a table in a train show yesterday.  During one of my breaks I found a very interesting layout.  It was being displayed by Bill's train repair.  Foam core construction so it is lite.  No wood or framed bench work. The only tools needed is a box opener and glue.  To have a look go to rrinabox.com.  If you have any questions Bill will glad to answer them.  rbklindworth@tds.net.  I am sure these are available from many sources.
