General Discussion / Re: Hinged Layouts
April 19, 2007, 03:27:47 PM
I saw one that I think they used two 4 by 8 sheets of plywood.  One was attached to the wall.
Then they took 1 by 4s and attached them to the edges so you ended up with a box on the wall
about 3 inches deep.  Then the other sheet of plywood was attached so that it would fold up into
the box.  You could put pictures or something on it to look at when it was folded up.

HO / Re: Compatablity of DCC locos
April 14, 2007, 08:24:05 PM
The tenders of the spectrum 2-8-0 is the same.  To Make it DCC you pull the plug and plug in a decoder.  The wires are the same. The difference is the dcc had the plug pulled and the decoder pluged in.

Now if you are from Arkansas a hog head hat is something else, and a call to go with it.

General Discussion / Re: Power districts?

i would think that you would Block on any layout of any size even if you are the only operator.  It makes it easier to find shorts.

After more checking i found the problem with the 2-8-0.  It has a cracked sprocket.  This is just a guess.  It is one of those dollar parts that they don't sell.  You must buy the whole power unit.  I got my parts and I was right.  you must buy the power unit, motor, flywheel, belt, gear, to get the sprocket.  So it ended up costing me about what a new locomotive would cost.

I didn't think the GS-4 was a Spectrum version.

General Discussion / Re: NMRA 8pin plugs

that is what I was thinking.  The way I look at it the only time it would be better is if you want to some day replace a decoder.

General Discussion / NMRA 8pin plugs

How big of a job is it to install the NMRA 8pin plug.  I have just been hard wiring the units that are not plug and go..

HO / Re: 2-6-2T's or 0-6-0T's for Bachmann?
April 02, 2007, 03:29:05 PM
since Bachmann already makes a 0-6-0t I think you are out of luck.  If I remember correctly I think someone did make a model of that locomotive.

HO / Re: wheel question for N&W j class 4-8-4
April 02, 2007, 03:24:07 PM
I don't have a J, but I am sure that you would not be able to replace 70 inch drivers with 77 inch drivers.  I am sure that there is not enought room between the drivers.

you can put pain railroad on what every locomotive you would like.  Just don't wait for some company to do it for you.

I think on an atlas if you use an atlas decoder you just remove the light bar and replace it with the decoder.
