CJ!! Want to swap places?? well... not quite. I actually call SALEM, AL. "home", but I married someone from NC, so we live here for now. She "teases" me by saying that "someday" we'll retire and go to my place (4 3/4 acres ), but that hasn't happened yet!! LOL There is a set of crossing bars, complete with the lights and everything, in the next town over (Fletcher) that I would dearly love to have, but I couldn't even afford the crain to move them if they were GIVEN to me!! But I "dream" about having them and a CABOOSE set up on my place in ALABAMA!!... and WORKING!! Can you imagine having those bars come down and lights flashing as you come home and park next to that caboose?   WOW!!

General Discussion / Re: TRAIN SHOW in WAYNESVILLE, NC

Waynesville, NC is on the western side of an East Coast state, North Carolina. On the map, you will find a larger city, Asheville, then follow I-40 westerly to exit 27, which will be hwys 23/74. Follow the signs to the county fairgrounds, and there you are! ... Are you going to be there?
                                                                                     THANX!!

Does it have to be Model Power? Ebay has several Tycoes going off in the next few days; present bid is only about $10 each!

General Discussion / TRAIN SHOW in WAYNESVILLE, NC
February 21, 2007, 11:38:32 AM
Is anybody going to the train show in Waynesville, NC? I've tried to contact them via the e-mail addresses listed in their MODEL RAILROADER add, and nothing works! Are they still having the show? Does anybody know?                                                                      THANX!!    Ernie

C'mon, guys!! A lot more have looked at this thread than have replied to it, so tell us a little about yourself! To be a family, we at least ought to know each other!! What if I surprised you with a gift in "o" scale, only to learn that you are doing "n"??  What if I got the scale right, but sent it to Vancouver, VT, and , when it was returned, found out it should have been Vancouver, WA!!

General Discussion / Re: Question from a new guy
February 16, 2007, 02:53:23 PM
WOW!!   i must be a lucky guy!! Upon sending several trains (3) to BACHMANN, they recieved them (shotly) and called to remind me that I had not sent the required $10-per-train (diesel).  Upon doing so, I was told that they were not repairable, so they would replace them. That being said, I asked if I could change the road names. The only problem encountered was that the lady had to go and check to see what road names were available, but that took only a few minutes! A few days later, my NEW trains arrived! - NEW BOXES AND ALL!! WOW!! ... And this was all accomplished on THEIR "800 NUMBER"!!      WOW!!!!    ;-))

Hi, ya'll, and GREETINGS!! from NC!THANX!! for the "DAY OFF"! Few of you know, though, that for the past week, I've been at home IN BED, mostly, with the flu! I called my boss yesterday, and told him to go ahead and schedule me for my usual trip to Western Kentucky, Sunday, because I can't afford to be sick anymore! I'm very glad that you are enjoying this thread that was started with the intent of bringing us a bit closer together, and even with the thought of perhaps finding someone just around the corner with whom we might find a real friendship. About seven years ago, I left Alabama to get married and move to NC. Since then, I've not really found anyone who really shares an interest in trains. I thought I had when a little shop opened in a local flea market, but they soon went out of business, so I'm right back where I started! Even if I don't find anyone close by, though, it's good to know that we have FRIENDS!!

Paul, would you please explain your comment a bit deeper? I did not understand??
                                                                    THANX!!
P.S. The one thing that I notice regarding DCC is that you can put sounds on your layout. My point was that you can also do this in DC/analog, only less expensively!!

General Discussion / Re: Who operates in....DC or DCC ?

DC... and don't ever plan to degrade my system by adding another C! The guys at the local club may snub their noses at me, but... who cares? I, and my FRIENDS are happy! -and the trains don't seem to mind, either! Isn't life GREAT?                                                                                   Ernie

p.s.
and, at least for the time being- until finances improve GREATLY, I still run HORN-HOOK COUPLERS!! That may change someday!!   lol

HO / Re: DCC ready vs DCC On Board

It would help a lot if there were some standard for ALL DCC installations.
I should think it would help the manufacturers as much as the modeler who purchases the end product.
Doesn’t mean it has to be a NMRA standard either, just everyone work together like the knuckle coupler manufacturers?
Right on about the old drawbars as well Gene.

Cheers,
Rich R

As I've said before, I'll say again, and hope I never have to eat my words: I'll never buy DCC. Should it ever become NMRA STANDARD, I think a lot of us would just give up the hobby!

General Discussion / Is "PROGRESS" inevitable??
February 07, 2007, 02:07:54 PM
Will everything go to DCC, eventually? Is it possible to "merge" DC  and DCC on one layout? Because of finances, I can't put decoders in my 50+ engines. Will BACHMANN's warranty eventually return a DCC-ON-BOARD for a non-repairable non-DCC?                                 ::)

Where are you from, and what do you do?
I'm from Hendersonville, NC, and a truck driver. My trains are "on the wall", as yet, and I'm hoping to get a (DC) track up and running soon!

General Discussion / Re: Rialroad background sounds

Try going to a "junk store" (Goodwill, Salvation Army, Ma & Pa Junque, etc.), buy a toy that makes a sound, take it apart, put it -with a switch- on your layout! I don't do DCC, but you could probably incorporate it such that you could activate it remotely!!!
