I hope you never experience the pleasure of calling customer service, and waiting months for a reply.

That's Bachmann for ya...   This is why I wonder if its even worth sending back one of my engines for repairs.

I work in the retail business at a hobby store. From talking with other model train companies, Bachmann's customer service is by far the worst I've ever seen. (Sorry Bachmann...this needs to be said.) I've talked with Bridget before on the phone and she comes off very rude. She will also often put you on hold for some guy who doesn't know a thing about HO engines to answer your questions.....Or she'll just hangup on you.

The best customer service I've seen for model trains is MTH, Broadway Limited, and Intermountain.

HO / Re: MTH 4-12-2

MTH just made a new product update on the 4-12-2. They made it so you can lock down the chassis from articulation if you want to. However by doing so, it will only take a minimum 42" radius curves: http://www.mthhotrains.com/9000.asp#

I have one on pre-order  ;D

Dear HO,
Usually a subsequent run has a number change; I'll check on this.
Thanks!

Let us know when you have pictures of it up :)

Thats good to hear Yampa Bob! If Bachmann does indeed put out Spectrum 0-6-0's with DCC, I can't wait too see them!

I know what DCC is. I've been doing model trains since I was 3 years old, and DCC for over 8 years. FYI, a decoder is a small chip.

I don't think you understood my question. I'm asking if Bachmann will ever make OnBoard DCC 0-6-0's.

Once the bugs are worked out, will they make anymore of them?

HO / DCC OnBoard 0-6-0's?
February 19, 2009, 11:48:12 PM
I was wondering if any of the smaller steam engines will be made with DCC OnBoard? I've always wanted to have a small steam switcher like a 0-6-0, but with a DCC chip installed.

Or something to be made like this maybe?

Why hasn't there been anymore models made of the HO Climax? I want one very badly.

HO / Decoders for Acela?
February 05, 2009, 07:09:51 PM
What are good decoders for the Acela?  Not the new HHP-8, but the Acela Express? I'm trying to also find a decoder that supports Back-EMF.

Yes it is a bit tricky. The body is mounted a bit like the Athearn F7's where you have to pry the sides at the bottom of the body and let the frame drop out. First remove the drawbar from the coupler box then slide the front skid plate under the loco forward. This will also remove the nose piece. Then remove the back panel with the door diaphram on it. Next you will notice small notches at the front trucks, take a small screw diver and gently pry the body out and up just about 1/4 inch on both sides at this point with the front of the frame hanging down below the body at a slight angle gently pull the frame out of the body.

As for the dummy Bachmann wasn't nice enough to use the same pcb so you could install a decoder for directional lighting.

Have Fun

So in other words, I would have to hot wire a decoder in the dummy to get directional lighting? So I'm guessing in DCC with only a decoder in the main engine, I wouldn't get the red lights in the dummy?

HO / Dissasembling Acela engine aggravation
February 05, 2009, 05:31:19 AM
It just seems to be impossible. How do I open up the damn thing without breaking something?

I even looked here: http://web.mac.com/msibnsf/iWeb/Acela%20Express,%20The%20Need%20For%20Speed/Modeling%20Techniques.html

And even with that, I still couldn't get it open. How do I do this???

Also, does the Acela require a decoder in the dummy engine as well?

General Discussion / Colored Smoke?
December 04, 2008, 01:48:25 AM
I've seen things like scented smoke. But there is one thing I haven't seen yet:

Colored smoke. Have a big coal train with brown or black smoke puffing out of a steam engine.

I'm guessing it isn't possible or it would have been out a long time ago?

Is there a way to make it?

Dear Freak,
Do you mean the Falk by MoLoco works? Beautiful loco!
No, we haven't considered it...
Have fun!
the Bach-man

Not exactly sure about the name, but yes, its made by the same people. I can't afford a all brass engine. Have any of these ever been made in to HO scale?

General Discussion / Gypsy 0-4-0 Engine for Bachmann
September 06, 2008, 02:57:23 AM
Have you guys thought about making a 0-4-0 Gypsy steam engine for either HO or G scale at a more reasonable price unlike the current all brass G scale model?
