HO / Turntable Help
May 30, 2009, 10:03:55 AM
I am wanting to incorporate a  turntable on my Bachmann DCC layout.   I am interested in the Walthers 160 cornerstone model and my question is are there any special electrical needs required to use it.   I want to be able to run a engine on the table and make a complete turn to return the engine to the original track with the engine resuming operation in the opposite direction.

Are there any special wiring requirements needed after installation or is it all built in the turntable.

From what I have read on the Walthers table here in the chat, it appears to be a popular and well liked item.

Thanks

Try Discount Trains On Line for Bachmann............they have it all and my switches there ran $43.   hard to beat that and the service is great.........shiping is good also..........only $7.50 regardless of size of order.

Thanks Reinhard and the Bachmann...........that makes sense.............saw the little critter in the box and it had me confused as to its use..........I thought maybe along the same lines as you did as far as covering the hole where the switch is at for programming but didn't try fitting it there.

Currently have 4 DCC switches and my layout plans will require a total of 10 turnouts in all when done.   New at DCC and really enjoying my Bachmann DCC set alot.........know I am limited to a total of 8 switches as far as independant addresses for them with my Bachmann unit so will have to double a couple of them up on the same addresses which will be no problem.

HO / Bachmann DCC Turnouts

Got my first pair of Subject turnouts No. 6 and noticed packed in them was a small piece of plastic/metal not quite 1/4 in. long...........can anyonetell this newbie what this critter is for in conjunction with the switches.   The instructions included didn't say a thing about it.

Thanks

Thanks for all the info and sites listed.    I did notice on the uncoupling site that you can only purchase cars with the auto uncouplers........did not see anything on the cost or availability of just the unit itself.    I don'twant to have to purchase cars with the unit installed and like folks said at that price it is a bit on the high side.

Its a shame Bachmann doesn't make a uncoupler track or unit of some type   I did not see any listed in the ez track section here.

The magnetic ones sound good that can be activated by a switch on the control panel.

Where can I find more on them and purchase options.

Doing a uncoupling unit myself.............self building is not a good idea for me............not the worlds greatest in doing that sort of stuff and prefer to buy ready made units if possible.

Will do some more looking.........................to bad they don't have units like the old 0 gauge track where you had a uncoupling unit built in the traack that worked via a magneti.
Manual uncoupling is not a good option for me as I have a hard time getting around my bench and prefer a automatic method of uncoupling cars.

HO / Automatic HO Uncouplers
May 03, 2009, 07:35:09 PM
I am the first to admit that I am new to alot of Model Railroading.   I have a Bachmann DCC layout with EZ track grey roadbed and also have a run using Atlas track code 100.    I would like to put in some uncouplers for both sets of tracks and would like to have automatic uncouplers if such a critter exists.    I see some types of uncouplers on Ebay and not for sure how they work.    If I remember correctly years ago there was a uncoupler type track that had 2 narrow wires between the track that when you stopped the car over it and I think you had to back up the train a bit and they go forward, the car would uncouple.

I would like to know if there are any automatic uncouplers that I can get where they may be activated from my control panel where my transformers are.   Or what kind of uncouplers are available that would work with my EZ track and atlas...........knowing the same kind may not work on both tracks due to the built in roadbed on the EZ Track.

What types of uncouplers do you folks use on your bench.

Thanks for any help you can offer

THanks for all the replies and tips........gonna go back to the drawing board and see if I can figure out a different way to lay the tracks to keep from having to use any type of crossover piece.   Possibly a elevated area for the DC to cross over...............was not wanting to go that way since due to bench length my crossove height would only be about 3 in. above the bottom track..........would prefer a higher clearance but the bench length where the track runs is only about 12 feet and using a rise of 1 in. for every 4 feet comes out to 3 in.   I don't think my old cheap tyco and lionel ho engines can take much more of a grade than that and still be able to pull 6 cars or so.   Back to testing and the drawing board............will figure something out.

Hope everyone is having or had a nice Easter.

I have thought of the possibility of using electrical controls to switch tracks from DC to DCC and back again but don't really want to go that route.   Also I have quite a few regular DC engines (about 10) that are not practical tobe converted to DCC............cost, size of engines etc.   I also have 9 DCC engines on the bench.   I am wanting to be able to run both DC and DCC and with the way I want to lay out the trackwork there is an area where i have to cross the 2 tracks over one another.   Can't figure out a n alternative to using possibly a crosstrack.   As o the brand of crossing piece I am opened to..........using Bachmann is not set in stone and no objections to using Atlas.

HO / Crossover Track for DCC and DC Runs Together
April 11, 2009, 09:09:17 AM
Howdy............On my Bench I have 2 separate track runs DCC and DC.
There is one section on my bench where I have a need for the DC track to cross the DCC track and turn and come back again.   I can't elevate the one track over the other and was wondering why I couldn't use the Bachmann 90 degree EZ track crossover to accomplish this.  Since the crossover is designed to keep the engine from shorting the track out when it or the rolling stock cross on it, wouldn't it be possible to have one track for DCC and the other cross piece being able to handle the DC track with the DCC or DC sides remaining isolated from one another and not compromising each system.

Has anyone else combine DCC and DC runs along this line.

The Unit I have is a Athearn Genesis G22130 F-7A/F-7A Set as marked on thebox.
Minneapolis and St. Louis  The box they came in is marked G 22130 A and G 22130 B  The box for each engine is marked 250-A and 250-C   Both units are powered and they boy have sound.   Sorry about the misuse of the term Cab.

HO / Dual Cabs A/B units is there a difference.
April 05, 2009, 07:02:34 AM
I recently bought my first 2 engine diesel set marked as a A and B units.

I was going to mark them as to which one was the A and B unit on the engines somewhere but got them mixed up after removing them from the boxes they were in.

My question is and this may be a dumb one for which I have been known to ask some screwy questions is   Is there a difference between the 2 units.

Assume the A unit would be the lead engine and the B unit would following in reverse after it or does it really matter if perhaps the B unit was the lead engine.

Also.............when getting a and b units does the b unit usually have sound if the a unit has it.    Just curious

THaks for the scoop..........would like to be able to change the direction of the locos and never dawned on me that is not possible with a transfer table.   I like the looks and style of a turntable much better and wll probably go that way..........am aware that I will need to have a transition track between my ez track and the turntable as well as the tracks leading into a shed.

I have 9 DCC engines 4 steamers and 5 diesels and will be using all of them on the turntable...........even if turntables were more used for steamers in the real world

Anyone aware of a DCC controlled round table that would be compatible with Bachmann DCC sets.

Hi am planning on putting in a table of some sorts for my DCC Engines.

Am wondering which is the best way to go............are there advantages between using the round table or transfer table or is it basically a matter of preference.

I would like to have the unit DCC Controlled and using a Bachmann DCC with the 10 addresses unit.   See one from Walthers   a table that is dcc or Non DCC controlled and not for sure if it is compatible with Bachmann

Any advice orexperiences in this matter would be appreciated.   Using Bachmann EZ Track on my layout and understand most turntables and transfer tables are adaptable to this track
