HO / 2 switches on the same control unit
April 16, 2010, 09:40:53 PM
Howdy I hooked up 2 Bachmann no. 5 switches on the same control unit as I wanted them to work in conjunction with each other.

They worked fine for about 7 or 8 throws and then it seems they wouldn't work.......either in conjunction or hooking up one at a time.    I could hear a clicking noise in the one switch but that was all.    I then hooked them up to another switch control and they seem to be working fine.   I have tried them well over a dozen times and so far so good.

Anyone got any idea as to what happened.    Are the controls not able to handle throwing more than 1 switch..........perhaps it was to much for the control unit.

Anyone else use just 1 control unit to operate multiple switches.

Thanks

HO / Just Wondering Why?
February 05, 2010, 06:05:25 PM
I have all Bachmann track and swtiches and so far quite satisfied with them.   I do have a couple of issues though..........why arn't there mounting holes in the 22 in. radius curves...........there are mounting holes in all the other curve sizes but the 22 in ones.

Also, on the end of track units, there is a mounting hole trouble is, its right under the bumper and I can see no way to be able to insert a nail or screw into it from above.    Why didn't they drill the hole in the last tie.......would have been nice.

Another odditiy I have notices about my EZ DCC Command station is that when I turn the power off completely to the unit and then turn it back on, the No. 2 switch address activates and throws the switch..........why that is I can't understand or figure out how to resolve it...........I just live with it.   The other switch addresses are not effected, but only the No. 2 address for some reason.

Along this same line is the No. 1 DCC switch address.........every once in a while it refuses towork...........so I have the turn the unit off and then turn it back on and it resets and everything seems to be backto normal.

Was wondering if anyone else has noticed any unusual quirks with their system

Happy Model Railroading to all.

HO / DCC Engine Problem at Wits End
January 01, 2010, 09:31:40 AM
For some strange reason my DCC Proto 2000 Soo Engine with sound all of a sudden to quit running.   I get no lights, sound anything when urning it on.   I tried all the addresses on my EZ Command trying to see if for somereason the address changed on me but no luck in getting the engine to respond.    I even tried resetting the address as instructed in the manual but no luck.    My last resort was to use the magic wand hoping it would take care of the issue and set the engine back to factory settings, but again, nothing.

I know it is not a track issue as I am running 5 otherengines on the same trackwith no problems at all.

Any other tips,................figure I will have to send it in to Walthers for a look and repair.

Hope every one had a great Holiday Season out there and got to run their trains a lot.

HO / EZ Trak Magnetic uncoupler
October 03, 2009, 04:58:58 PM
Am hoping to find a magnetic uncoupler to use with my DCC and EZ trak with the road bed.    I see Bachmann has one that has a workman included.   Understand this is a magnetic unit that is placed under the EZ trak.

Was wondering how well it works and how it works.   Anyone out there have one on their bench

Have seen quite a few of these automatic uncouplers, but from what I have read they arn't all that perfected...........most folks prefer uncoupling by hand with a wooden rod sharpened to a point and by other various methods.

HO / EZ Track No 5 Turnout Roadbed Clearance
October 02, 2009, 12:42:51 PM
I recently purchased 4 pairs of subject turnouts.   I was surprised when I went to install them that you cannot connect track to the ends of the turnout as the roadbed on the track gets in the way between the switch area and does not allow a complete connection of the track.    I took a short straight piece and cut out part of the roadbed so the tracks could be joined properly

Why they didn't extend the switch track out a bit further to alleviate this problem confuses me

HO / Bachmann DCC Switch Repair
September 25, 2009, 07:07:03 PM
I have quite a few Bachmann DCC switches...........6 crossover switches and 6 regular ones.    I recently had problems with one of the crossover switches and to no luck found out there is no one in the area that will repair them.................which I kind of figured out to begin with but thought I would try.

I contacted Bachmann Service to see what I needed to doto send it back for repair and to my surprise they told me they don't repair their switches and my best bet would be to buy a new one.

It seems odd they don't repair switches ...........the crossovers are not that cheap.   Then again it seems we live more and more in a disposable society which is a shame.

Not being very mechanically minded I doubt if I can fix it.............was wondering if anyone out there knows of anyone who repairs Bachmann other than Backmann.    From what I have heard from my local hobby shops it is impossible to get any type of repair parts from Bachmann to begin with.

HO / Bachmann EZ Track Turnouts
September 08, 2009, 09:02:23 AM
I am currently using Bachmann DCC Turnouts on my bench,   there is a area on my bench where I want to use the regular turnouts and was wondering if they are compatible with a total DCC operation.   Do they get all their power from the track for operation or do they have to be connected to a transformer as alot of traditional automatic switches need to be.

I know on my DCC Command unit there are no places to attach accesssories for power that I am aware of.

Also, I read where the Bachmann No.44561  is a 18 in. radius turn and the No.44565 is larger.........is it a 22 in. radius does anyone know.

Thanks

HO / Pics of my bench for what its worth
July 11, 2009, 08:45:05 AM
Well I finally figured out how to add a link to my new photobucket account.

The problem is the pics are rather small and don't know how to make them any larger.   I tried to view them full size on my computer before adding them to the album but when I go to open them they are automatically added to the album, again as the smaller size.

If anyone has any tips please let me know...........somewhat new at computer stuff.    The pics are from my picasso web site album but not for sure how to link to that site from here............seems everyone here uses photobucket.

Regarding my bench..........it has beena long learning process.   The original concept for the nolix had to be abandoned as to the layout as it was more of a maze over the bench than what I had figured.   The new nolix plan eliminated most of the ramps so there is more of a open view of the bench rather than looking thru metal rods and ramps.  The pics of the nolix are of the beginning of the old method and was as far as I got before I realized it wasn't a good approach.  This has been removed and the new ramps are now installed on the right leg...........will be posting pics of this later.

Thanks

HO / Turntable Help
May 30, 2009, 10:03:55 AM
I am wanting to incorporate a  turntable on my Bachmann DCC layout.   I am interested in the Walthers 160 cornerstone model and my question is are there any special electrical needs required to use it.   I want to be able to run a engine on the table and make a complete turn to return the engine to the original track with the engine resuming operation in the opposite direction.

Are there any special wiring requirements needed after installation or is it all built in the turntable.

From what I have read on the Walthers table here in the chat, it appears to be a popular and well liked item.

Thanks

HO / Automatic HO Uncouplers
May 03, 2009, 07:35:09 PM
I am the first to admit that I am new to alot of Model Railroading.   I have a Bachmann DCC layout with EZ track grey roadbed and also have a run using Atlas track code 100.    I would like to put in some uncouplers for both sets of tracks and would like to have automatic uncouplers if such a critter exists.    I see some types of uncouplers on Ebay and not for sure how they work.    If I remember correctly years ago there was a uncoupler type track that had 2 narrow wires between the track that when you stopped the car over it and I think you had to back up the train a bit and they go forward, the car would uncouple.

I would like to know if there are any automatic uncouplers that I can get where they may be activated from my control panel where my transformers are.   Or what kind of uncouplers are available that would work with my EZ track and atlas...........knowing the same kind may not work on both tracks due to the built in roadbed on the EZ Track.

What types of uncouplers do you folks use on your bench.

Thanks for any help you can offer

HO / Crossover Track for DCC and DC Runs Together
April 11, 2009, 09:09:17 AM
Howdy............On my Bench I have 2 separate track runs DCC and DC.
There is one section on my bench where I have a need for the DC track to cross the DCC track and turn and come back again.   I can't elevate the one track over the other and was wondering why I couldn't use the Bachmann 90 degree EZ track crossover to accomplish this.  Since the crossover is designed to keep the engine from shorting the track out when it or the rolling stock cross on it, wouldn't it be possible to have one track for DCC and the other cross piece being able to handle the DC track with the DCC or DC sides remaining isolated from one another and not compromising each system.

Has anyone else combine DCC and DC runs along this line.

HO / Dual Cabs A/B units is there a difference.
April 05, 2009, 07:02:34 AM
I recently bought my first 2 engine diesel set marked as a A and B units.

I was going to mark them as to which one was the A and B unit on the engines somewhere but got them mixed up after removing them from the boxes they were in.

My question is and this may be a dumb one for which I have been known to ask some screwy questions is   Is there a difference between the 2 units.

Assume the A unit would be the lead engine and the B unit would following in reverse after it or does it really matter if perhaps the B unit was the lead engine.

Also.............when getting a and b units does the b unit usually have sound if the a unit has it.    Just curious

Hi am planning on putting in a table of some sorts for my DCC Engines.

Am wondering which is the best way to go............are there advantages between using the round table or transfer table or is it basically a matter of preference.

I would like to have the unit DCC Controlled and using a Bachmann DCC with the 10 addresses unit.   See one from Walthers   a table that is dcc or Non DCC controlled and not for sure if it is compatible with Bachmann

Any advice orexperiences in this matter would be appreciated.   Using Bachmann EZ Track on my layout and understand most turntables and transfer tables are adaptable to this track

HO / Cheap Bachmann Rolling Stock
February 17, 2009, 04:53:16 PM
Hey folks.........just came back from visiting a new Hobby Shop here in town to check out their HO stuff........quite a bit...........anyway, I found these Bachmann HO cars they were selling for $3.99 each........in a Bachmann box  about 6 different styles.............box cars, cabooses, etc.   I took one out of the box and they seem pretty nice for the price.........not the detail of more expensive ones but nice for someone starting out or a youngster.

Knuckle couplers and appear to be all plastic.

One other thing is that all of them had the same item no. on them reagardless of car style.    Item No. 76336 marked on the end ofthe box and also the style of car in it.

I bought one to bring it home and see how it runs.........anyone else seen these cheaper cars or have had any experience with them     I tried to look up the item no.  on the Bachmann site here but no record and no record of these cars in those listed on the site.

Wonder why Bachmann doesn't have them listed on the site here........maybe due to the price   I don't know.

Howdy.........have had my Bachmann EZ Command unit for about 2 months now and so far very satisfied with it.   I had 2 engines running on it under separate addresses with no problems programing them.

I recently purchased 2 new Proto 2000 engines and also programed them in under their own addresses which went fine.   Trouble is I wanted to add a second engine under address 1 so I could run the 2 engines in conjunction with one another.    No luck, the second engine would not change addresses.   I tried 3 more times with no luck.    Then I tried to change one of the other engines to a new unused address and no luck.

I am following instructions, pressing the currentl engine address no. and the stop buttom at the same time waiting for the  power light to blink and then releasing them at the same time, then pressing the new address button and when I release it it lights up and then I press the stop button to exit the programming feature.    No luck in getting any engines to program to the new address.

Has anyone else had this issue is there a way to correct the problem myself or do I need to send it in to be serviced by Bachmann.    I bought the unit about 6 months ago and it is still in warranty.

THanks for any assistance anyhone  can offer regarding this.

I am running the engines on a test oval 4 feet wide by 8 feet long outer loop with 2 crossover swtiches going into a inner loop a bit smaller, until I get the rest of the track laid out.

Thanks

HO / Engine on Bachmann E Z Command DVD
January 01, 2009, 09:31:37 PM
Howdy just viewed the Instructional DVD for E Z Command and wanted to first say it is very well made ............the reason for this message is can anyone help identify the one engine shown in the video.......I think it is shown in the area where they discuss other options and such.    It is a really olde tyme looking steamer........not know proper terms and such don't know what it would be called.   I looked at the Bachmann site here and could not find any engines like it so assume it is out of production.  I went to Walthers and after looking at more engines than I can imagine found some that slightly resemble it and think they are referred to as a T boiler or T tank.    The engine has the ver high smokestack on it and the chassis of the engine is very open aired.

Anyone else see the video or maybe have a idea of what this engine is and where I could look to possibly purchase one like it or similar.   WOuld like it in DCC if possible.

Wish u all the best in 2009 and hope Santa brought u all some neat train stuff.

HO / programming and running dual cab diesel engines
December 18, 2008, 02:46:29 PM
Hi   I recenty bought a DCC Engine.........2 cabs both powered.   Not Bachman and the manufacturer said they could not help me with this issue but to try talking with the folks who made my unit which is a Bachmann EZ DCC unit which I like very much.    Am new at DCC and both engines run well separately from one another..........my question is how do I program them to run in unison........one facing forwards and the other backwards.   One has to run forward while the other unit has to run in reverse.   Assume I can't run them on the same address as am not able to program one to go one way and the other to run in reverse using the same address.   Do I have to assign a separate address to each engine programming one to go forward an then the other cab to run in reverse.    When I want to reverse the train direction , would need to stop both cabs and address each one separately to go the other direction and then resume operation.

Is there an easier way

Am sure there are folks out there who run 2 cab diesels in conjunction with one another as i see there are a lot of them on the market.

Thanks
