Kadee #148 would be a good replacement.
Not complicated at all. Just swap them out. No need for anything beyond that.
If you still have the paperwork, there should be an explosion cart of the F7, from there it should not be too difficult
to figure out how to remove the coupler covers.
Just a precision screwdriver set is all you will need tool wise.
These Kadee #148 are metal and you really have to go out of your way out to break them.

If you paperwork has been misplaced here is the chart for the FT,,not all that different from the F7.

General Discussion / Re: River

Most rivers and creeks tend to be muddy brown in my part of the country.
In the mountains rivers can be greenish.
Very shallow creeks can have clear water.

HO / Re: now i want one!!
January 20, 2011, 08:10:31 PM
Any set will do! ;D

what some people have done who are pressed for space have been known to do the following.

Get a board and some casters. Attach the casters to the board and slide it under your bed.
Just pull it out when you want to run! A Dust cover is recommended.
I imagine N scale rather than HO would be best for this sort of thing.
Also depends on size of your bedroom too.

Wall mount. The train board simply folds down from a wall for running.Folds back up when done. Sort of Simple but effective,,so long as the scenery is spartan.
All scenery if any should be removeable, obviously, like a cheap Styrofoam mountain, a building or two that can be stored in a box or the like.
Check with landlord if a you're a renter. LLs' sometimes get twisted about stuff like that.

Folding collapseable table, fairly self explanatory there.

Out in the garage if you have one. One i have heard of is a suspended 4x8 that can be lowered from the rafters by
ropes and pulleys. Just use your imagination to picture that one.

if nothing else, hopefully this got your synapses going.

HO / Re: Multi trains DC

New to model trains. I have 3 DC HO trains (Dewitt Clinton, Pegasus) I want to run them on different tracks at the same time. Is  there one controller that I can do this with so as I don't have to have 3 controllers running. Can I use the Bachmann DCC controller 44902?
Thanks Don

Key Phrase = On Different Tracks.

IF the three different tracks are not electrically connected, YES it can be done without DCC.
Assuming the tracks are completely seperate from eachother or at least divided electrically by plastic rail joiners if connected by switches [turnouts].
You could connect the powerpack to an Atlas switch like #210 or #215.
The tracks can be in turn connected to the above switch bank to get power.
this is also known as block or cab control, one of the two terms anyways to put it in a nutshell.

there is this kit here
http://www.trainsetsonly.com/page/TSO/PROD/433-1418

any one of these would help too = Clean Tracks make for much better electrical contact
http://www.trainsetsonly.com/page/TSO/CTGY/HO-CLEAN

not sure what this is but it looks interesting,,maybe someone else could tell us more

Model Power does make some aircraft in 1/87

Cessna 172 Skyhawk, Messerschmidt BF109E , MiG-15, Douglas Dauntless SBD-3, F-4 Wildcat, a USAF Predator drone, FW-190 and a couple of Huey helicopters.
You can find them here
http://www.modelpower.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=13&Page=1

Interesting enough,,hang them with some string over the layout. The layout could be under attack, or the planes are on patroll. Maybe there is an airshow going on at the just off of the layout airport nearby.
Put them on their display stand someplace on the layout as a war memorial or static air museum piece.
Mount the Huey on a flatcar,,,

If these are built like the HO Spectrum Heavyweights,
I had a similar problem with my Heavies.
Turned out it had something to do with the wheels.
Put the wheels in the truck one way all is well.
But if ONE axle is put in the wrong way, all goes dead, as if the the axles/wheels are polarized or something.
The fun part is,,,is it just one axle or all that is in the wrong way.
I found this out when, long story made short, an axle/wheel came out of the truck.
I put it back in and,,,,no go. >:(
took it out flipped the axle around and reinstalled and that time it worked.
Worth a shot.
Otherwise i would contact the service dept.
