General Discussion / Programming Track Relay
April 13, 2010, 09:16:39 AM
I'm thinking of setting up a programming track as a spur line on my layout. I want to use a MRC Dispatch Decoder to activate a DPDT relay to switch power to the track between main and programming I will use a section of track with a gap.
Should I consider doing anything else to this set up so I don't do any damage to any other parts of the setup

thanks for any helpful information

I have a few for the wish list, how about more structures from The Island of Sodor.
Like more of the smaller stations, sheds and Platforms. I know how about the Ice Cream Factory.
and I would love to have a Sodor Grade Crossing, Steel water tank, Sir Topham Hat's Office and Car. Farmer McCool's Farm

Trying to find structures of British theme is tough, I've looked at Hornby and their Thomas Items as far as I can tell are not available in the US unless someone know different and their other Items it seems are not available at all

any other suggestion or Idea from the group

I'm not an expert but what I would suggest
buy the Bachmann red extension cable, cut it in half thus you have two separate plugs. 2nd you want the levers open and 3rd i would put a switch in line with one of the plugs to shut off that section of track

hope this helps

i've been told by a local shop that Digitrax is coming out with a small decoder with light and sound small enough for T&F,

So my question is to all, is there any place to get the sounds of Thomas and Friends to download to a decoder or is there a way to create your own sounds if I do use the Digitrax decoder

HO / Re: Bachmann DCC turnouts
March 29, 2010, 10:28:32 AM
are you also pressing the program button on the turnout and the setting a new address
I'm in the process of building a new layout and I try to read up on all of my equipment before I buy. I have already got a couple of the turnouts and according to the direction you first need to install in on your layout and make sure power is running completely though the section. Then push the program button on the turnout then program the controller for the turn out

Hope this info help you out

The Knapford Kit will probably use the EZ-track just like Tidmoth shed

I agree with the rest of the guys, you won't find a program that does it all but as for the EZ-track i am currently using AnyRail, I actually just contacted them about adding the Tidmoth Shed round table to their library and they where very happy to help out by contacting Bachmann themselves to get the tech data on it
so I hope this helps you out. one catch there is a free trial but I suggest spending the money and getting a liscences copy of it

Good luck

Place a small 2-way radio in one of the coach cars.

You can than talk "Live" to the kids.

The Kids, young & old are amazed!

if can find a 2-way radio small enough to fit in the HO Thomas i'll pay you 1 million dollard for it

Jim
somehow that make more sense to me but then math isn't one of my strong points. I guess I'll just have to wait to get the actual Bachmann kit to see how it actually fits on my layout. And of course then I can play with motorizing it

Based on ABC's photo above, there are 9 equally spaced tracks in 180o so the spacing would be 180 / 9 = 20o.

Jim

Jim if you look at the picture again, counting all the section with in 180 there are 10 so that's 180/10 = 18 so my guess would be roughly a 15 degree spread between track. I tried to lay it out with a program I down loaded call ANYTRACK and it looked wrong but looks right at 15

if anyone has issues trying to figure out a layout I fully suggest purchasing this software off the web I found it worth the $50+/-

Great question, but is the kit going to come with all the track or does it need to be purchased seperatly

Here is a website that either walks you through the process of installing a decoder, or the will install it for you even sell you a Thomas with decoder and light already installed in it. Hope it helps

Check to see if the Atlas motor drive could be adapted to turn the crank on the bachmann turntable , after all thats what it does for the Atlas manual turntable .  John II.

John
Thanks I'll have to see if that works when I get the Kit
