The bad news is that the set is 32 two years out of date. The good news is, well there is no really good news. I hope you did not just recently buy it.

If the only goal of using the tool is to make track cuts, why not just buy and use a Razor Saw?

Trying to keep the track from flexing with a razor saw is a real pain.

Most times after a item is not made any more and not around to be sold as a new retail item, most manufactures and stores will remove it from their listings.

Did you hook up the new one exactly as the person in the store did? Is the new one the same make as the old power pack?
You state AC power output that has nothing to do with running HO engines.

Are you sure that you have the DC output going to the track and not the AC.
Wiring to the AC output, which is for accessories, will make the engine do as you describe as AC is a steady non adjustable output.

Yes it is, and they have stated that it does work. I guess it is the same as when I have bounced the IR signal from my TV remote off the wall to the receiver on the telly.

Seems like a lot of good agreement on what to use. We all have our favorites.
I forgot to mention that I also use a product called, Amazing GOOP, the household version, for those jobs on the layout that only need a very small dab of adhesive. It will also glue plastics together that other glues will not.
It also works great for loose soles on shoes
