Hello,

It looks like a 'T' boiler in the cab. There is the motor in it.

General Discussion / Re: Coal Train Vid

Hello,

I wonder they nail the rails with spikes on wooden ties in a heavy duty track.
It's like in the year 1830. What a modern technology!

Why no concrete ties with a modern fastening system?

Hello,

Excuse, for my first measurements I used a wrong scale.

Here are the exact dimension from the 18' box car:  4.650'' long (without couplers), 1.730" wide and 2.500'' high. The floor is  0.666'' over the rail.

It is not only shorter, it is also smaller then the standard box cars from Bachmann.

The other 18' freight cars have the same length and width as the 18' box cars.

On30 / Re: #6CrossoverTurnout

No,
the HO #6 crossover tournout is for HO - clearance and not for the greater On30 - clearance. There is a big difference between. For On30 you need 3'' spacing.
See NMRA Standards S-7 (old time O Scale) and S-8 (On3).  http://www.nmra.com/standards/sandrp/consist.html

Hi,

This Forney couplers are an old problem. There are made alredy many topics for the Forney rear coupler. Go to "search" on top of this page an search for "Forney rear coupler" or "Forney derail" or "Forney coupler". You will find a lot of answers for a solution of this problem.

On30 / Re: On30 ... 2-10-0?

Hello Hamish

HO and On30 is in fact the same gauge, but a different scale. You forget that the overhang of the On30 locos is twice as large as in HO. Not everything what works in 1:87 goes in 1:48.

Hello,

for this Chinese Baldwin ten wheeler compare the image with the Bachmann 2-4-4-2.

Then take the 2-4-4-2 body and  set under a ten wheel chassis frame.  That's all.

But is a ten wheeler a loco for small radii which one we have on our layouts? See the problems with the Forney.

On30 / Re: On30 2-4-4-2 minimum radius
January 15, 2013, 06:13:50 AM
Hello,

There is a list of minimum radius for On30 locos and cars from Professor Klyzlr.
The minimum radius for the 2-6-6-2 Mallet is 18''. For the 2-4-4-2 it would be the same.
See http://www.npcrr.net/On30/On30Loco_n_Car_Radius_pics.pdf

On30 / Re: Bachmann On30 Future

Hello,

I suggest every engaged On30-modeler to read the "Narrow gauge and short Line Gazette" www.ngslgazette.com and the "On30 Narrow gauge Annual" www.on30annual.com . Both are specialized for Narrow Gauge in prototype and model. There you can find locos and rolling stock for On30 from different manufacturers, kits and ready to run. And these are not few.

Also if you search in the internet, you will see that On30 is a powerful growing range under the leadership of Bachmann.

On30 / Re: New modeling challenges

Hello,

Narrow Gauges are all over the world at private, industrial, mining, logging, military and also state-owned railways. One of the important gauges was the "Cape gauge" in the former British Empire.

See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_track_gauges and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narrow_gauge_railway, where all gauges and countries are listed. So you can find in the Internet oodles of homepages of NG railways and NG locos in Europe, South America, Africa, Asia and Australia in different narrow gauges.

For scale 1:48 On30 gauge .649'' would be the exact original gauge = .649'' x 48 = 31.152'' = 2' 7'' (792 mm). It not exists. But all original locos for gauges between 2' and 3'6'' (600 mm and 1067 mm) are good prototypes for On30 locos, if they have the right ¼" scale 1:48.

I prefer for my collection the models of 3' gauge locos from the Colorado Railways as RGS, DRG&W and C&S plus all US logging and mining railroads.

Hi Kevin,

that is the right loco for the next Bachmann model.
Big enough but not too big.
