Ace Hardware and others have had plastic pond liners that just need a hole in the ground.  Use a small pump to recirculate the waterl  gj

some logging lokeys used steam-jam brakes on the loco, with only the hand brakes set on the cars.  If you have access to a Precision Scale Co O/On3 parts catalog there are probably some drawings in there as to that these look like.  gj

Large / Prototype for Bachman loco
July 28, 2012, 04:37:41 PM
What was the prototype for the large-scale  3-truck  modeled by Bachman? I see several lettering schemes in the catalog, but I know that at least the West Side was wrong  (#4 was a Heisler)--for that matter, how about the prototypes for other Bachmann logging locos? I thinkk I recall finding a simila rloco to the original Pardee & Curtin 2-truck Shay on the Pino Grande  (Michigan-California Lumber Co )
Thanks for the help--Glenn Joesten

Given the apparent factory relationships of Bachmann Fn3 and Blackstone HOn3, my money would be on the C-19, since a lot of engineering work has been done in HOn3--compare not only the K-27 but the freight cars under both labels.

The C-19 could almost be considered a Baldwin "Catalog Loco" having appeared on serveral roads.

Marnold also had a system of modular panels to custom-design  a power center.  Waalthers made them il the later years.--gj

thanks-- it runs well on DC--using an old Marnold pack.  I have been a serious O Scaler for over 50 years.  The motor in this loco appears to be a Pittman--which is about as beefy as can be put in an O Scale loco.   It is just that I have not been familiar with the Williams brand in scale applications.  So I was wondering if there is any background on this.  Thanks for the responses.  gj

Notg only do the drivers turn, butwatch the lights when you push it--that motor becomes a generator! If this is a first run, check wsith Bachmann regarding re-designed  driver cranks/counterbalances.  They are abouit an hour fix, improve running.  g j  you might also want to replace the dark orange led's in several lamps with "golden white" ones.

Williams by Bachmann / SP Cab Forward

This reaches back to the days before Bachmann acquired Williams, but perhaps someone has somme info.

I recently purchjased Williams #8002 O Scale model of an SP AC-12 Cab Forward.  It is labeled "Crown Edition" and is made for 2-rail.  (It was also made for 3-rail as by coincidence there was one of those up on eBay at the same time.

Does anyone know then these models were produced?  The seller says the 2-rail loco has been re-motored--knowing O Scalers as I do, were these originally underpowered (necessitating a new motor?)  I have not track tested it yet--but it is a good "layout-grade" model
Thanks for whatever info you have.

San Juan Decals is expanding their line to 1:20.3 (Fn3) at the present time.  These started as the Foothill Model Works line--excellent quality wet decals gj

I would recommend against trying to use a K-27  on an upper-level shelf.  These brutes are HEAVY!!  The K-27 has three connections between loco and tender, making it awkward to handle--needs at least three hands to lift it up to the track.  Mine run OK on the 8' diameter track-- but would like wider curves.

As an aid to handling,I recommend running an 8-32 die on the drawbar post and securing the drawbar with a knurled binding post nut--helps keep the coupling.  gj

the current issue of Garden Railways has an articlle on making a jig to make stirrup steps--following that, you might be able to make another  to make grab irons.  gj

connect a bridge rectifier--the 2 "squiggles" on the bridge go to the transformer output asyou would connect it for Lionel use.  , the + and - are the DC output.  Then a DPDT toggle cn be wired as a reversing switch. Linn Westcott"s Book "How to Wire Your Model Railroad" has diagrams.  the Lionel throttle will control the train thru the rfectifier and toggle.  gj
