Get your multi-meter out. Do some continuity checks is what I would do. It could be burnt out.

1. Can I run a non-DC locomotive on a DCC setup?

The motor can get quite hot even when the loco is stopped. Where both brushes contact the armature is the issue.. I have measured with an infra red temperature scanner with the loco in a test stand.
Last I knew, Bachmann EZ Command, MRC Command 2000 and I think a Digitrax system can run a DC loco using stretch zero bit. I use to have the MRC system.
DCC is a type of AC that makes the DC motor oscillate. The decoder changes it to a different form to run the DC motor. I have used a Scope to see the difference.

I use to use a fine point soldering pencil and wear an Optivisor with lights on the side.

Go to the different decoder sites and listen to the sound samples. They will probably sound different in your loco depending on the baffle and speaker. What is Best will be what you think is best.

You could look in the Information page for your loco and maybe ask in the Large scale forum is those people do not look in this forum. I am not familiar with the loco.
I do know there is a smoke module for the HO locos.

Well 1k for LED's are normal and 28mm for speakers are normal at least for me.
I have done reverse loops and crossovers but never a double.
