I like that Box Cab Electric.

It doesn't look to be too taxing to 'bash it up from an HO diesel mech and an O scale reefer, plus some other bits and pieces.;D

I apologise for my error.

I had no idea that the Gas Mech parts were out of stock. I haven't visited the Bachmann site for months.

I have four of these little things, and they all run without fault.

Looks like I had better take it easy with them.

^_^

As I recall, Bachmann removed the little DC Porters from their catalogue while they were re-vamping them up to the DCC and DCC / Sound versions.

Maybe this is what they are now doing with the Gas Mech.........? ??? ???

I agree with Tom.

Bachmann sell spare parts for their locos, including the Gas Mech. Just purchase a new drive axle set.

QuoteHi,

Have you tried  91% Isopropyl Alcohol?

Check your local pharmacy, drug store or supermarket. I get mine at my local grocery. Don't get anything but the 91% used as an antiseptic. The lower concentrations don't work as paint strippers.

I use 91% to strip paint on models.

David

Hi there David,

Thanks for the suggestion, but 91% Isopropyl  Alcohol is seemingly unavailable here in Oz. The closest we can get is the 60%, which is obviously, 40% water. This is why it warps timber horribly when I use it for Alcohol and Ink weathering.       >:(

Thanks also to Wounded Bear and railwhistle. I may try Easy-off, as that is available here.

On30 / Bachmann Figures
July 01, 2012, 08:42:44 PM
Hello all,

I have just purchased a selection of O scale figures from the Bachmann range, and I have found them to be well-detailed, well-scaled and nicely finished.

I have removed the parting lines from a few of them, and will be repainting and adding further details, but I have had these things soaking in brake fluid for 48 hours now, and it hasn't even looked like softening the paint.   :o

Does anyone out there know what I could use to dissolve this seemingly-impregnable coating?

Thank you.

HA HA Bob, :D

That's not what I was thinking....

I was actually wondering how these things might fit through the doors and portals of a mine structure that I am planning..

But it looks like they may be WAAAAY too big... >:(

Thanks anyway.

On30 / Re: What gauge of track?

Hi there Joe,

I have done that.

When I moved over to On30, after being a dedicated HO-er for 40-odd years, I had such a stock of Peco Streamline track that I thought it was a silly idea to not use it.

I effectively removed every second (or third) sleeper, then painted and weathered the Peco track and sleepers up nicely. Once I added the ballast,  no-one (not even me) could tell the difference.

What appeals to me about this method is that each sleeper has its own chair and spikes, even if the sleepers themselves are not quite 'prototypically' long enough. I prefer that to seeing rails soldered to PC sleepers, with spikes only about every ten or fifteen sleepers.

But what is "prototypical" on your railway anyway? By its very nature, narrow-gauge means cost-cutting on everything, so why not on track?

As the man said, It's your railway - so do whatever you feel is right....

On30 / V-dump car dimensions?

Hi all,

Could someone please advise the L-B-H dimensions of the Bachmann Item No. 29802 V-dump car?

Many thanks.

Hi "2foot6", mate.

I have sorted out the basic plumbing, thanks to the assistance of members on this forum, plus a few others from other forums.

I have the water supply connected via a valve, to the injector on the RHS of the boiler, and have added a fuel inlet and valve to the LHS, adjacent to the firebox. Also added a fuel pressure gauge next to the steam pressure gauge.

All 'crusted and rusted' up now, and not looking too bad, in my humble opinion.

I would like to post a couple of pix, but I cannot do it, due to the 'strange' requirements of this forum.

Hi there Royce: Many thanks for the heads up re Keith Wiseman's 'skidder.

Thank you to all.

John.

Me too....

Those DC Davenports are practically bullet-proof.

They have no gear-train to suffer from split gears, unlike the Shay and Climax, and the only problem that I have ever had from my fleet of them is that there is sometimes a loss of contact between the bronze current pick-up strips and the backs of the wheels. This usually responds well to a clean, then all is well again....

I wish that I had purchased a few more, before they are discontinued, and re-offered next year in a very-expensive DCC / sound version.
