HO / Re: Ordering Bachmann European Engines?

Thank you ;D  Thats definitely a good place to start. Unfortunately, they don't have a HO scale Class 37. Do you know of anywhere that would sell one?

HO / Ordering Bachmann European Engines?
May 16, 2008, 03:45:21 PM
Is it possible to order Bachmann European engines across seas? I want a Class 37, but I don't know of anywhere else to buy a British engine in the US.

Help anyone?

I saw the Tri-plex at the train show this weekend. I have to say that I really think it is one of the more impressive models I have seen in the price range. Further, it seemed to be performing very well. That having been said, it was running on a flat surface. I have read on this board that there may be a problem with the engines drive wheels coming up off of the tracks on a grade. So I would wait and see if this probelem persists and can be remedied by the company. Still, it is really a great looking, unusual engine.

The problem with the Triplex has been resolved. It turned out to be a very minor problem. During shipping of the engine to Tony's Train Exchange, the center pole came out of place, which enabled the up and down pitch of the drive truck. Once it was put back in, it worked fine.

Has anyone bought one of the new HO scale MTH Triplex?  If so, how is it? How many cars could it pull?

SDP45 Question
« on: November 23, 2007, 08:34:35 PM »
Does anybody know if any HO companies make, or made SP SDP45's?

Also, is there any left in existence in real life?

NONE so far!

Oh sorry. I didn't know I had previously asked the question. I must have forgotten. I'm a busy man.

There is only one engine that exists that is similar. But its not an SDP45.....but an SDP40. There is currently only one still running. All of the SDP45's have been scrapped.

With lube, the golden rule is always "Only when there is obviously a problem". Excess lube ALWAYS causes more problelms than it solves. If electical pickup is fine, don't apply the lube.

Ok. Thank you. Someone warned me that if I didn't use the conductive lube, it may wear out the pick up wipers. Thats why I wanted to know how often I should use it.

Hi Steam Freak,

You might safely conclude there is not much to be gained by even worrying about what letter to use to define the size of the model trains when discussing large or "garden" scale- better to simply use the scale factor (1:22.5, 1:20.3). THAT way everyone knows more precisely what you are talking about and it at least avoids the arguments from those with pet peeves about the letter-based nomenclatures.

Bachmann's new K-27 will be like Spectrum geared steam engines (38T Shay, Climax, Heisler) which are all 1:20.3 (I have all three of them) along with the newer 3-truck Shay.  So call 'em whatever you want (G or Fn3) but make sure you buy or make 1:20.3 accessories, figures, and buildings to go with them if you want to stay "in  scale".

Al

I liked your answer the best. I could understand it lol. You answered exactly what I wanted to know. Now I know that its the same size as the geared locomotives, and won't have any trouble running the K-27 on my track; if I decide to get one. Everybody else's answer just got me confused. Thank you Al  :)

Yes, it is plastic compatible. Thank you Mr. Bachmann :)

How often do you have to apply it?

The Two Truck Bachmann Heisler on this website says that its scale is 1:20.3

So does that make the Bachmann Heisler G or Fn3?

Fn3 is bigger than G scale isn't it?  I didn't know Bachmann made anything in Fn3.

Is the K-27 going to be a new product for G scale? Or is it a kit bash someone made? I was a little confused on the Photo Gallery.
