HO / Re: GE 70ton Diesel?
March 13, 2026, 02:02:34 PM
Although not available in blue for the Pere Marquette I may just randomly purchase a 70 ton in whatever color undecorated. I can get lettering and stripes in yellow with or without red outlining. I can not remember if the  70 ton Diesels they had were ever repainted when Chesapeake and Ohio purchased the P.M.

Re-phrase, does everyone have good luck with the HO Scale GE 70ton Diesel? I believe there are three generations. Currently the replacement trucks in Bachmann 'Parts' state they are third generation.

Thank you.

On30 / On30 Shay truck replacement?
March 06, 2026, 03:08:30 PM
Hello People,

I have two replacement trucks for my Shay locomotive but have not. Is this just a straight forward remove and replace or are there hints that I should know?

Thank you.

Forney type and size locomotives have always been my favorite.

P.S.I am nearing retirement and will not be able to afford them, lol.

HO / GE 70ton Diesel?
March 06, 2026, 02:37:00 PM
Hello people.

I have had good luck with ebay and want an HO scale GE 70ton Diesel for my Pere Marquette in Allegan Michigan. Which box color should I avoid and which box or phase have people had good luck with? I am asking about the gear issues, not debate or discuss, just which I might have good luck with.

Thank you.
P.S. I know that older 70 ton had two motors. The black boxes are Spectrum which I believe are single motor and may have gear issues from what I have read. Does this make the blue boxes be the most recent run? Have people had good luck with these?

P.S. Again. People are using the 44ton and 70ton chassis and drives for retrofit MDC Roundhouse Diesel and Climax. Yet there still is the question rather the most recent run of these is the most reliable. Does not help to acquire a donor drive if it is relegated to the scrap line.

General Discussion / Re: DC Reverse Loop
December 24, 2024, 02:21:37 PM
Edit: Typing when tired does not work.
I need the loop polarity to remain when I switch Forward/reverse.
Back to Googling. Not that it matters but this will be controlled by an MRC Control Master 20

General Discussion / DC Reverse Loop
December 24, 2024, 10:24:45 AM
This is a constant question and always complicated wiring.

My thought and am I wrong.
A DC mainline with a loop at each end, always going into the loop on the straight side of the turnouts. The main and turnouts have power. Each loop are isolated from the main and turnouts. All has power of same polarity wired to the three sections from power pack. Loop, Main, Loop.
No extra power switches/toggles. Only forward and reverse switch on power pack. If I operate train onto isolated loop and stop. Then manually change turnout. Change forward/reverse switch on power pack and then move train onto main and proceed to opposite end and onto the loop and stop.

Each end is a station so not a problem to stop.

The on30 2-6-0 Denver & Rio Grade Western. What is the green used on the boiler. Also what is the smoke box color. I want a couple locomotives to resemble this. Thank you.

On30 / Re: Forney ?

I wish you would have read this/understood railexpert. I am not talking about any of the ideas you suggest I "search" for. I am not talking about "dealing" with the rear overhang or extra long coupler. I am working on making this "not" overhang so bad on curves. Do you have a reference you can point me toward?

I do like the looks of the cut apart ones but do want a Forney to remain Fornyish. One could turn down the rear set of drivers but I am wondering if maybe a little investication might find a good swap.

On30 / Forney ?
March 06, 2017, 09:21:02 AM
Not trying to beat a dead horse. The Forney was wonderful aside from the operating troubles on corners.
Just daydreaming, what if a person replaced the rear drivers with blind drivers and eliminated the side to side movement of the rear truck? This would bother some people looking directly at wheels on track around corners. From most peoples perspective though it would ok and in fact may look better too most since there would not be the rear overhang on curves. These locos are too fun to put on the shelf. Of course if someone could figure out a Mason Bogie that would be fun also.

Not to intrude, but I have just been needing the same and have wondered if I should just buy the complete truck assembly.

I could get by with those restrictions but I would seriously hope that all model railroaders considering marriage need to have a well planed pre-nuptial real estate agreement. This comes up far too often.
