HO / Bachmann EZ-Track.
October 26, 2014, 10:14:58 AM
I have a need for two EZ Track crossovers for a layout I am building.  I need a 90 degree crossing and a 30 degree crossing but I have not seen any listed.  Does anyone have a source for this type of EZ Track?
I have the crossovers in Atlas Code 83 track, but do not have an adapter to use with my EZ Track.

For all the replies, Thanks.  I finally found the EZ Track that I needed in the Bachmann store.  Guess I can charge it to a senior moment.  Forgot the store even existed.

Right, I just Googled 'copper adhesive conductive tape' and came up with amazon.com.  They have it in stock in rolls 1/4 in X 36 yards for $10.96 roll.

This does not include shipping.  I would imagine the current carrying capability is suitable for our low voltage functions.

Thank you Roy.  I see it is 2241 GMT so I'll keep this short and you can get some sleep ;D  The copper tape sounds interesting, but I have not seen it in use here in the colonies.  Guess I'll have to do some scouting of the supply houses.

Goodnight,

Thanks, Jim...a lot of good points and ideas in your reply.  My 85 year old brain isn't hard wired, so it adapts well to suggestions and recommendations.  Never too old to learn.  Guess I have been in electronics for so long that it was just a natural assumption to use bare hookup and terminals.  I'll put your advice to good use.

Jim, what I had in mind was to run two bare wires the full length of my layout which is a 4 x 8 plywood base.  My controls are at one end and I planned on spcing the wires about 2 inches apart and then connect my street lights, etc. to them via the terminal blocks. The wires coming from the various lights will of course be insulated and I will solder them to my two buss wires.  The two buss wires will be supported via stringers on the bottom of my layout.

???I am now ready to install my street lights and various building lights on my first layout.  I need a source for bare solid hookup wire and terminal blocks.  Hope someone can point me to a vendor.  I tried RadioShack with no luck. Any place will do but I live in East Texas.

General Discussion / Re: Modify B-Units

I took your suggestion (not recommendation) and removed the gears and disconnected the motor from the track pickup on the two B units.  Since I am running the EZ Command DCC controller, I replaced the DC F-7A lead unit with my DCC Genesis FP45. I retained the F-7A unit since it is a Bachmann DCC equipped unit.  The whole consist runs very smooth and is exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks.  The units are all DC.  The controller is DCC Bachmann EZ Command. The consist is the Santa Fe Super Chief with ABBA and usually six to eight cars....I have not been able to find any Super Chief B units that are unpowered.  I have no intention of replacing the motor and gears once they are removed.  Basically what I was looking for was a procedure to do the removal.  Guess I'll have to keep looking.

I have two Bachmann F-Bunits that I would like to convert from power to dummy status.  My power unit is not strong enough to handle the four powered units ABBA.  Is there a way to do this?

HO / Re: Engine hangs
September 05, 2007, 03:26:30 PM
I am running 6 different engines on the test; The FT-7 which hangs; two LifeLike F7s, an Athearn F7 and two Special Bachmann Special ON30 engines.  They all run fine except the engine in question.  Forgot to mention I am not running on DCC.  Straight DC from the Bachmann Control. I don't have a digital voltmeter, but my analog shows a good steady voltage with no flickering or dropouts of any kind.

HO / Engine hangs

???I have a Bachmann FT-7A with DCC on board.  I have finished laying my track on my layout (Bachmann EZ-Track) but when I try to run the engine to test the track, it hangs up on the track.  It is almost as though the wheels are too small and let the plastic shell drag.  I have checked and double checked all of the joints to make sure that none of the rails are out of the joiners and stick up higher than they should.  Running two fingers along the track does not produce any bumps or rough spots; it is smooth all the way around.  Is there a away to adjust the height of the shell on the chassis to prevent this.?

HO / Re: Track Problem....
July 05, 2007, 07:26:35 PM
Thanks, Gene.  That was my problem.  The male end of the rail was riding up over the crimped end of the splice.  I managed to get them all snapped together after seeing what was causing the problem.  I might consider using some conductive grease like we use on heat sinks to make them slide in easier and still carry the DC current.

BTW, have you seen the DVD that NMRA put out on the 50th anniversary of the LA Terminal.  They used two of the really old steamers from the 50s.  They had one from Union Pacific and one from Southern Pacific.  Both trains left from different locations and merged in LA to pull into the station together.  It was really something to see those old horses in action again.

Thanks, Craig....I do have some very small jewellers screw drivers.  I will try to pry the opening a bit to see if that will let the rail slide in.

HO / Track Problem....
July 05, 2007, 04:31:24 PM
I'm in the process of putting togeter my first layout but I have run into a small problem.  I have the track (Bachmann EZ-Trak) but there are about 3 or 4 sections that just will not go together.  I have made sure that the ends are correctly lined up before I try to snap them together but for some reason, the rail ends are binding on the small joiners.  I was wondering if I could take some needle nose pliers and remove the joiners and then reinstall them or would that render them useless?  Anybody got an idea on how to fix this?
