Large / Re: Big Hauler Wheel sets
January 06, 2021, 02:20:40 PM
Thanks guys.  Mine are clearly all plastic wheels on the cars.  I pretty much resurrected three Big Haulers engines last year and found this forum.  I replaced all of the Loco chassis with the great prices they had last year. The grandkids love setting them up every Christmas season.

Large / Big Hauler Wheel sets

Just curious if anyone is swapping out some of the plastic wheels and axles on Big Hauler cars.  I have a few cars that are prone to derail and I think it is because of the wheels on the cars, maybe not being true or possibly binding.  If you lubricate those wheels,  what do you use?   No problem with the engines as they all have had the chassis replaced last year.

Not sure why you would want to try and remove the paint on the Tweetsie.  An airbrush or even a rattle can with primer can completely prime the shell if you disassemble it.  Then you have a clean canvas to work with.

Since pictures are not hosted on this site, pictures need to be hosted on a separate site and often they then have an expiration date.  Best bet is to PM the circuit poster and he can send it to you in an email, or repost a new link on the site here.

Here is a new link.  Unfortunately the free dropbox account only lets you set a 7 day life on the link.

Here is a link to my Big Hauler Polar Express.  $5 worth of 1/2" vinyl letters did the trick.

Tried to post a picture of my Big Hauler conversion to a Polar Express but I keep getting a message that the upload folder is full.  My picture was only 94 KB.

Large / Big Hauler Version 2 vs Version 5 Annie
December 17, 2019, 08:44:31 PM
All of my engines that I am converting to Annie Chassis are Version 2.   They only have 1 smoke Switch behind the front plate and only 1 pin connector for the Chuff sound to the Tender.  The Annie Chassis have a second pin connector.  What is this second connector for?
I don't plan on using the smoke box so will leave that switch off but I do need to connect power to the leads that connect to the smoke box switch and also the headlight.  Where is the easiest connection for these? Is there a chance there is a wiring diagram somewhere for the Annie Chassis?

So you say it doesn't run but does the headlight come on when you apply power?
Just trying to see if you might have a broken wire.
what is the make and model of your speed controller?
How old is your Christmas Train?

Finally got through on the phone line to a person in parts, she couldn't help me as she didn't have access to previous orders but she transferred me to Bob who was one of the managers.  Took Bob all of 2 minutes to pull up my order and tell me that a new 81097 chassis was on the way to me along with a return tag for the broken chassis.

Great service and I have to say I love the look and smoothness of the 81XXX chassis.

Large / Re: Big Hauler Weights

Looks like the old weights come off easily and fit the new Annie Chassis.
Doing a search on weights,  I was able to find enough info to indicate it would be a good idea to install the weights to improve pulling power.

Large / Big Hauler Weights
December 14, 2019, 02:50:32 PM
I am retrofitting 3 new Annie Chassis on 3 older Big Haulers.
In reading the instructions from Loco Bill there was no mention of the large weights that sit over the motor gear assy inside the old engines.
It looks like these can be moved to the new chassis but unsure if this is recommended.

First thing to do is make sure your speed controller is operating.
If you have a voltmeter,  then measure the output voltage of the controller.  With the speed turned up it should be a DC voltage ranging from 0 to 21 volts.  If that is correct then measure the voltage at your track to make sure you don't have a bad wire connection.
Some engines have two switches behind the smoke box door on the front of the engine.
One switch is for turning on the smoke generator and the other switch is a polarity switch that can change the direction the engine moves.  That switch may be a 3 position switch. If so, the center position is OFF.  Make sure it is not in the off position.
That is a few things to check and report back your findings.

Large / Custom Decals
December 12, 2019, 03:00:33 PM
I want to convert one of my 4 6 0 Big Haulers to a Polar Express for my Grandkids.
I am unsure what kind of decals to get as I see there are vinyl ones and others.
I would appreciate any comments on how any of you have renamed and customized your engines or rolling stock.
Thanks
Doyle
