In a discussion with Lee Riley, he said the blind driver width on the Tweetsie locos was 7 inches.

Not likely to get a chassis number, it is quite old and out of production.

However, I do have the cluster gear (only a couple left) and the drive axle with a new gear, crosspinned to the axle.  Cheap, cheap.

There are plastic gears and there are plastic gears.  A couple of rules have to be kept in mind.  Regardless of the material, the driving gear must be made of harder material than the driven gear.  I use plastic gears, but all have brass hubs.  In most cases I enlarge the size of the set screw and insert the set screw with locktite #222.

In my gear boxes, the first driving gear is a brass double thread worm gear, which engages an acetal Gear with a brass hub.  On the shaft with the acetal gear is a 16 tooth aluminum gear driving another acetal gear on the axle.

For the record I have lost one gear in the past 15 years, and this is for everything built in the last twenty years.  So the problem with plastic is not that it is plastic, how it is used.

For example all brass gears of the same material will not do well in a stressed environment, if the brass is all equal.

Large / Wanted - Two Gandy Dancers

I have a new idea I want to put into the little Gandy Dancers.  I want two of them, not running, of course.  I will design and build at least two drives for two running "GDers".  Need the front section, with wheels and the rear section with wheels and the pick up parts.

One I will keep for more development and the second one will be returned to the donor for his own use, with my thanks.

I just went through one of my "parts" boxes and found a 2 wheel truck from a 2-4-2, can't tell if it is the pilot or the trail truck, but if I had to guess it would be the trail truck.

If it has to be a tube, start with a piece of brass or aluminum tubing, even easier, just flare the ends.

Check with Micro fasteners and Special Shapes (they ship for K & S).

How small a rivet?  You might be able to make one out of brass or aluminum rod.  Flaten one end to make a head, clip it off at length and start to flatten the other end to close it (or kust flatten it so it stays in place.
