HO / Forum
June 01, 2009, 12:46:23 AM
By the amount of participaion in the last few days it would appear that the forum is slowly dying . I believe it is becoming too technical for many of the members. Let us see if we can get back on track.

General Discussion / Athearn
January 26, 2009, 01:09:11 AM
I was playing with my Athearn Challenger  when the sound just shut off. I did all the analyzing I could and had it pinpointed to the decoder. I figured that I would check the wiring diagram and see if they gave me a part no. for the decoder. No part no ; no wiring diagram. I went to the instructions which told me that 2 quick touches on no.10 would shut off the sound . I went back to the layout ;started up the loco , hit no.10 twice and lo and behold the sound came on. I  guess while turning on the lights I must have accidentaly hit no.10 twice to turn off the sound. There are some lessons to be learned 1. Read the instructions ; 2. don't make assumptions 3. no.8 is not the only sound control and no.10 does not just turn the lights of and on.

HO / CNR Markings
November 27, 2008, 12:57:53 AM
I just received the latest Sears Canada flyer . It advertised  a trainset with CNR markings and it appears to have been mfg by Bachman. It is definitely not a catalogued item . I wonder if Mr. Bachman or any one else can give me any further info.

Large / Large Scale Clearance
October 29, 2008, 12:51:21 AM
I just received a Bachman 1:20.3 LS 2-8-0 narrow gauge loco . It was purchased from one of the larger dealers. When I opened the box and pored through the literature i found a gift certificate that would allow me to purchase at a special price a 2001 Bachman catalogue. Is it safe to assume this loco was mfg in 2001 and is it of current configuration. Were there any inherent problems with this model .
I purchased it as new.

I have on order for quite some time the walk around Companion and the connector  panel. The shop I ordered from is a large dealer and they tell me the items are on backorder. Mr. Bachman is it possible these items are no longer available.

HO / Backman 2-8-4 Berkshire with DCC
September 22, 2008, 01:29:22 AM
I just received the 2-8-4 and was a little disappointed The loco operates quietly and smoothly but it lacks detail . The cab and firebox have absolutely no detail. It looks to me as if they have changed mfg's considering the packaging was not up to Spectrum std using only a plastic envelope fitted into a light cardboard container . Then warranty is only for one year and not lifetime which makes me a little nervous. I hope the quality of the internal parts is not a reflection of the external appearance . If someone else has purchased a 2-8-4 please voice their opinion.

General Discussion / sounds -general
August 23, 2008, 12:50:15 AM
Iwould like to add some general activity sounds to my layout . I find that most layouts are too quiet and could use some sounds to add some more realism and develop some atmosphere. Any ideas on how to accomplish this.

Large / 2-4-2
June 29, 2008, 12:56:29 AM
I have a Roger 2-4-2 that will derail if the rail is not perfectly flat .It cannot adjust to any uneveness in the track. The problem is that the front truck springs even on a perfectly flat surface are compressed to the point that there is no travel left in the trucks. When the truck travels over an uneven surface it lifts the whole loco and it will derail and the trucks are the electrical feed to the loco so that contact is lost also.
Anybody got a solution or experienced this same problem.

HO / Bachman 2-10-4
June 15, 2008, 01:23:04 AM
I just purchased an older Bachman 2-10-4 . I have run it and it runs rough. I have yet to take it apart so I have no idea what may be wrong .It seems to have an extra long coal tender and the bottom of the tender is drilled for a speaker. Can any one supply any info on this model. Were there any trouble spots to look for .Thanks

HO / bulbs
April 10, 2008, 01:15:01 AM
I recently purchased a Proto 2000 GP9 DCC ready in box from lhs for one very good price . With the intent to do the install myself I also purchased the decoder for the loco.Upon disassembly I find I have to change the 1.5 v bulbs for 12v 50 mil amp bulbs.Do I need the specific bulb rating or can I use any 12v bulb that will fit.I am not very familiar  with electronics and the wiring of same .

General Discussion / Authentic sound
March 20, 2008, 12:29:36 AM
I have 6 steam locs' with dcc and sound . They are from 3 different mfg. There is one thing  missing from the sound in all of them. Their is no clank from the side rods when the engine starts to move. It sure would add to authenticity you could hear the clank of the side rods. Would do you say there Mr. Bachman

General Discussion / CN locomotives
February 25, 2008, 12:58:28 AM
During 1960 I was working in Armstrong Ont. . The only transportation in and out was by train or 4 wheel drive or Volkswagen over a very bad road.I would head home to Winnipeg by climbing aboard the second engine when it stopped to change crews . The engineer would turn on the heat and the lights and he would let me off just out side the Transcona yards about 2o'clock in the morning. Part of my layout is the mainline into Winnipeg. I would like to identify the most likely locomotives CN would have used  during this time period.
