General Discussion / Label Makers
October 23, 2016, 11:34:59 AM
Anyone have one of these that they like, used for such things for example, as making labels for a control panel?  I see many digital ones advertised now.

Thanks, appreciate any assistance.

HO / HO scale logs, homemade or otherwise
September 20, 2016, 03:07:31 PM
Anyone have any success in making their own?  Otherwise, good sources of where to buy them pre-made?
I understand that based on region, the availability of material available in nature to make them may vary.  I have come across hminky's way of making them from large and small wood dowels.

Thank you for any help.

Re: Harvest Express set

What is the scale length of the Canadian grain hoppers?  50ft or more?  What radius curves are supplied with the set?

Thank you.

Thanks. :)

General Discussion / Recommendation: Multi Meter
January 09, 2016, 12:07:46 PM
While for some time now, I have recommended against purchasing a multi meter from Harbor Freight, advocating instead to use the money toward the purchase of a better quality meter, I can advocate for taking advantage of coupons that Harbor Freight frequently puts out for a FREE meter with ANY purchase.  I recently used one of these coupons and to qualify for the free meter, bought 2 part 5 minute epoxy for $1.99 + tax.  They have items in the store for as low as 99 cents, things that can be used, like the 2 part epoxy, for our hobby endeavors.

I can report that the meter works fine for the kinds of things we often encounter with running our model trains, in addition to being able to test household and car batteries.

For those folks getting into the hobby that don't have a meter, I recommend this multi meter as an essential tool to have. :)

HO / Liquid Electrical Tape
November 12, 2015, 12:43:03 PM
I do use shrink tubing a lot when doing wire work but also picked up a bottle of the above "just in case" .  It is good for fixing minor boo boos to wiring, such as holding heat to it too long when trying to shrink wrap :-[  It is also good for anywhere you need to insulate but don't want to cut or de-solder wires to get shrink tube around.

I found that instead of having to use the big honking plumber's brush that comes with the container, you can use a small model brush to apply the liquid tape (since a lot of the work on locos and such involves small wires) then clean the brush with charcoal lighter fluid so the brush can be reused.

It took a while for me to find any info on what to use to clean the brush and just thought I would pass that along for anyone interested in such things.

*Meant to post this in General; Yardmaster, can you please assist me with that?

I would be in the market for analog models, but would appreciate any feedback on the units themselves, outside of any DCC component.

Thank you :)

February 22, 2015, 11:55:44 AM
I have to replace a window's vinyl mini blind and before I send it off to the landfill to sit there long past I am gone from this Earth, I wanted to know if anyone ever found a use for these.

Thank you.

General Discussion / Sad News Once Again, Re: Doneldon
February 07, 2015, 06:43:01 AM
I noticed it has been a while since seeing usual poster "Doneldon" and it got me to wondering as I think he accumulated the most posts of anyone here I have come across so far.  I sent him a PM some time ago asking if everything was alright and received no reply, so I did some research this morning and this is sadly, what I found.  Rest in peace Doc, you'll be missed!

Williams by Bachmann / Question about O54 track
October 04, 2014, 12:56:34 PM
Does anyone know if Atlas ever made the above sectional type track with brass rails?  I am asking about the stuff meant for indoor use.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Has anyone ever found a model train use for these?  I am curious.  Thank you for checking out the question.

I stopped into one of my local Radio Shack stores while doing some shopping this evening and found there were many items on clearance that are useful to running your Bachmann layout.  I picked up a package of assorted terminals, a European Style terminal 12 position terminal strip, SPDT automotive flip switch and Heavy Duty DPDT toggle switch all for dirt cheap.  I had to ask the clerk what else was on clearance after I came across some of the clearance items in the rack of LEDs, resistors, switches, etc that they have, in order to get the full idea of what they have on clearance.  I do not know if this is just regional, I would suspect it is national but I thought I would pass it along.

HO / Bachmann Standard Line, DCC-Equipped HO RS3
October 31, 2013, 01:01:52 PM
Hello.

I searched first for an answer to the question I have but could not find it, even though I found lots of mentions for the newer Bachmann RS3s.  It does seem from what I found that there is a lot of praise their running qualities.

My question is, in order to have this loco run on a DC operated layout, is there anything that needs to be done to it programming wise in order to get it to do that?  I have no hands on experience with DCC and therefore have no DCC equipment, which is why I ask this question.

Thank you all in advance for your help.

Has anyone ever used a Kadee #622 knuckle spring as a replacement for the spring on an EZ Mate Mark II coupler?

I just opened a package of 2 last night to mount on a car, went to check the height against the gauge and one coupler was missing it's spring.  It was on there when I mounted it to the car and somehow, somewhere, disappeared between the work bench and the test track.  Very disappointed btw Mr. Bachmann that w/o any use, the spring would pop off :(.

Thanks for the help.
