HO / The Pennsylvania Railroad K4
November 15, 2009, 01:51:58 PM
Ok, I want to know all i can on item 84113, the k4 pre-war dcc-ready. how is the quality? can it pull 7 athearn passenger cars (with weights installed) without a problem (aka slippage)? mechanical problems that are brought up with other items that the k4 never seems to have, are there any? about how fast (in scale mph) can it get up to? give me every good AND bad detail you can come up with, i have a light-mountain that i love, and another spectrum would be an excellent addition, so i want to know all i can before making the purchase

HO / What Turntable to use...
November 09, 2009, 04:39:45 PM
Ok, I'm completely rebuilding my layout (ugh, what a task) and I haven't a clue what turntable to buy (I know about the walthers turntables, nobody has $300 to spend in my generation) and I've given up and I'm hoping to save (approx. $200) and I want a turntable thats at least 120 feet, now, I have looked at diamond scale, it seem promising, but... I have a feeling that with my patience it will not go well.  Now I did check this site out: http://www.custommodelrailroads.com/ but I don't know any background on their turntables, and I'm never in a mood for scale structures (scratchbuilding anything is beyond my patience, even just the pit) now, is there anyone that I can rely on? (again, I CANNOT afford the Walthers turntable)

HO / Elephant Ears
September 16, 2009, 08:14:32 PM
I recently Bought an IHC Hudson at a Train Show (Nickel Plate Road) I wanted to make it more prototypical, and add Elephant Ears, http://www.trainweb.org/chris/sttmu20.JPG , but the question is, do I have to scratch-build them or does someone make them?  If scratch build is the way to go, any suggestions?

HO / Wobble, Slip, Why?
August 26, 2009, 02:43:26 PM
I have an IHC Mikado and Pacific, they both could pull six to seven Athearn Passenger cars with the weights in them with ease when I ran them, pre-layout redesign, and now they can't pull four Passenger cars without the weights, without slipping, not to mention on my 28" radius the Mikado Wobbles, (although I think a part of the side-rod is bent) Is there any way to make them stop slipping and pull at least 5 cars with the weights in them, and I have made adjustments, and the track is as level as I can get it.

HO / Santa Fe 2-10-4
July 28, 2009, 11:44:23 AM
I was wondering what the length of the Bachmann Santa Fe 2-10-4 Overall Wheelbase is.  I read on Steamlocomotive.com that the Santa Fe 2-10-4 was 98.5 feet, but is this accurate to the model?

HO / GS-4 Numbering Issues
July 22, 2009, 11:05:26 AM
One thing I have noticed on the War-Baby GS-4s is that 4459 and 4464 were NOT Gs-4s, 4464 was a non-skirted 73" driver, single Headlight GS-6, and 4459 was a GS-5, just a GS-4 with Roller Bearings, two of which existed, my suggestion is to put different numbers on the two engine or adjust them to be more prototypical.  Just my little note on the GS-4.  And the 4464 looked like this: http://cencalrails.railfan.net/sp4460hw.jpg

HO / Turntables
July 18, 2009, 11:26:03 AM
I currently have a 90' turntable, and It seems quite a bit smaller than when I bought it, I'm looking into the Heljan 98' turntable, since it looks like it has an extra inch (than the 90'), and can be extended about a half inch to the lip of the pit.  Does anyone have experiance with it, pointers, reasons not to buy it other similar products that are in the same price range that are better?  Please note my current 90' turntable is the Walthers Cheap turntable, so that isn't an option.  Another thing I need to add is, all the Bachmann Northerns, the J-class, GS-4, Niagara, Santa Fe, what is the individual wheelbase for them?

HO / Squeaking Mountain
July 14, 2009, 01:11:42 PM
I bought a Light Mountain (Bachmann Spectrum Line) a few weeks ago, and all of a sudden it started a terrible squeaking, I greased all of the moving parts on the Driving Axles, an still a squeaking is apparent.  One note I have is I left it running for about an Hour and a half, on a double-header at half speed, while I did other work and when I checked it, nothing was de-railed and it squeaked, I am open to suggestions on repairs.  (before anyone mentions it my radii is 28")

HO / Turnout Question
July 02, 2009, 02:48:18 PM
I have a few Walthers Passenger Cars, that many may know only run on 24+" radii, and I was wondering if they would work on a #5 turnout, if not a #6 turnout.

HO / NYC Niagara
April 11, 2009, 10:39:38 AM
I recently acquired a Walthers 90' turntable to eliminate the process of forward/backward activity and I have found an interest in the Niagara, but I just want to know if it will fit on my 90' turntable.  Or does any of the others fit on a 90' turntable? And is the Niagara reliable?
Thanks! ;D

Does anybody know if the Santa Fe Northern will fit on a 90 foot turntable?
