gw, not too difficult, just takes patience.  I'm not sure what you need but if you can contact me off board, maybe we can figure this out!    Stephen

newguy,

Hey guys, I haven't been on this board for a few years but now my 8 yr old has fallen in love with my Bachmann trains and he bought his first Bachmann DCC gp30 on Ebay (used). He was very disappointed to find that the locomotive doesn't really move on the tracks even though all the wheels seem to be spinning. I'm hoping there is a simple solution to this. Is it a weight issue? If you really turn up the power it will start to move very slowly but there is no traction. Any suggestions?

A lot of questions need answered here.  First, you said it"doesn't really move on the tracks".  Does it move forward and reverse at all?  When you stated that the wheels seem to be spinning, do both trucfks spin while on or off the tracks?  Several things come to mind right off, check the metal coupler arms to see if the are dragging on the rail/ties!  If they are not, make sure both sets of trucks are spinning.  If they are not, remove the shell, carefully, and verify the driveshafts are where they are suppossed to be.  If they are, and they are spinnig freely when power is applied, check your gears in the trucks.  The may be split.  This is just a start but it may troubleshoot enough to locate the problem!  If none of this workd, take the shell of carefully and photo everything!  Hope this helps and advise your progress.  Stephen

Not sure when the steam was stopped but I do know they were mixed in the early 50's!  Last passenger train was in 1959.  Don't know the exact date though.  Hope that helps,  Stephen

You will also have to modify the front a bit.  Taking the ears off leaves a long section in the walkway to fill and you will need to make handrails for the steps.  Check Bachmann's Overland.  It is essentially a Niagara without the ears.  That is where I obtaine my patterens for the change over.  Hope that helps a bit,  Stephen

I saw a picture of that once but I didn't think it was a Bachmann!  Anyway, I would stay away from that one.  The batteries were the supply source for the locomotive.  Not one of the best!  Hope that helps some.  Stephen

James in FL,   I live in West Virgina and my LHS is H & R Trains!  Met Don and Alice in 2006 while on active duty with the military.  What a great place!  They will be greatly missed when they retire and almost considered (actually did consider it) making an offer on the store just to make sure it stays open.  Alas, too much other not able to give up.  Feels like I go home every time I walk in the place.  It's a great way to run a railroad!  Stephen D. They haven't made the Plasser in some time but don't rely on the fact that it is not listed in the online Parts catalog.  Give them a call and they may have some anyway!  I do that all the time with about a 70% success rate.  Hope that helps.  Stephen
