As you have advanced in the hobby do you wish that you had done your own ballast work the first time  or do you think that would be best left for another day?

Okay people another stupid question from me that doesn't have a real answer. What is the best sound decoder for diesel locomotives in general.

N / Re: N code 50 and code 80?

Yes. And basically the shorter rail is more prototypical and for the more advanced modeler than the taller rail.

General Discussion / Re: New layout

Thanks. This has been very valuable. I have pretty much made my decision on N even though I already have a small HO thing. Now I just need to figure out some of the details and get started on cnstruction and shopping.

General Discussion / 440 American
December 24, 2008, 01:15:05 PM
I was wondering if anyone has a HO american made by Bachmann.I had some trouble with mine with the drive shaft from tender to locomotive. It would make a grinding noise. I checked the screws under the loco and saw that they were loose. Seeing that they were loose I tightened them and the noise stopped.

Could you get a picture please. if it is what I'm thinking it would be extremely easy to fix with 2 pieces of wire a couple of minutes. :)

General Discussion / Layouts
December 24, 2008, 01:01:07 PM
To get an idea of what is going on in the world I have some stupid questions. What locomotives do you have on your layout (steam or diesel). What is the time period? Where is the setting? And finally what is the main frieght? I know this is wierd but I'm trying to gather my ideas and thoughts for my first railroad.
Thanks for reading :)

General Discussion / Re: extreme trains
December 24, 2008, 12:51:28 PM
In my novice opinion Extreme Trains is more for the people who know absolutely nothing about the railroad and how it works. I can barely stand the entire show. also you never learn anything from it.
