Hey guys,

Could you please help me to choose the right fit metal wheelset for 40' boxcar?
Will it be 33' or 36?

Trainman203

33".  36" is for passenger equipment and later heavier freight cars.

Nix

Thanks for the response.

I'm bit new to this hobby and confused with wheel size. Which will be the right fit for 40' boxcar?

jonathan

33" is correct for 40' boxcar.

Jonathan

Oh yeah.. I misread your post.

Thanks a lot both of you!

Out of curiosity, what would you consider to be a "heavy" freight car?

Trainman203

Newer cars got bigger and heavier .

My understanding is that the older cars of 70 tins or less capacity used 33" wheels. The 100 ton and larger cars that came along in the 60s began the use of 36" wheels on freight cars.

If at first you don't succeed, throw it in the spare parts box.

Len - Clicking on the first link takes me to a picture about wiring a toggle switch.

Ooops! Fixed. I was posting to two threads at the same time and got the links switched around.
