Is that the reason why he's not being considered to be made at all?

On this point, Hornby holds the license to make a lot of the NRM adjacent stock. Scotsman, the Rocket, Mallard, so on. However, it is not necessarily exclusivity. Other companies can and have negotiated to make these models before. But it does often make companies less likely to go about it. It is also unclear if these rights negotiations would even need to apply to a thomasfied version of the engine (same would be true with Stephen.)

In fact, we've already seen the Bachmann Thomas line seemingly get an exception/were just allowed to make it with the Open Carriage as I believe that would also fall under the NRM jurisdiction (but I may be mistaken.)

TLDR: I don't think that is necessarily the issue with Scotsman, it is likely a production cost and packaging issue more than anything. Rebecca was already really costly and she (as far as I know) hasn't met sales expectations. So, an even bigger tender engine especially right now is probably too much of a gamble. Could definitely see him happening down the road though.
HO/OO Modeler, toy collector. Main interest with Bachmann is the HO Thomas line.

Luke22

Yeah, I figured from his size alone it could be an issue, especially since the likes of Rebecca is a slow burner even though she's a pretty decent representation of her TV series model...!

Heck, actually, now that I think about for Stephen (and/or Glynn if they decide to do so), I doubt they'd be able to add the eye mechs into their tiny bodies since I wouldn't be surprised if that would end up driving up the price w/ all the complex parts to what makes Bachmann's T&F products unique for the HO & Large scale lines...

So it could be possible, but how to tackle the challenges of the price tag, sizing of the model w/ tenders, etc-similar to Harvey and Diesel 10's situations-would be deciding factor, but then there's also Hiro that people have been wanting, but idk if that'll be possible right now like as was said since Rebecca's the make-it-or-break-it situation...

Bachmann has always seemed to prioritize doing Awdry characters as seen by them doing Oliver before Rosie and  Daisy before Rebecca etc

Scottman I could see them wanting to do. However idk if he could happen .
there are two that I can think of that are technically Awdry characters well inspired by Awdry rolling stock .
Judy and Jerome would be a really good choice for the line . Considering they are doing the TAB Thomas and James for N scale and did the TAB versions in HO for the 75th
And overall something from the adventure begins which honors the brands legacy is great idea for the 80th
Not only that but the fact that they work in the show with Ryan and Daisy on the harwick branch is another good reason for them .

yes I've also been wanting them to do Judy and Jerome for a long time. (I've just always preferred the original break down train to rocky). so doing them would be a great move. (though I just wonder if they did them if the works coach would be green or the orange one or they could do both to anyone's preference).

as I shared in this topic and made a fourm. I would hope they'd do another troublesome oil tanker. (though as I said base this one off the ones from journey beyond sodor). I bought most of the troublesome trucks (3 of each of 1 and 2 Six in total). than I recently bought 3-6. waiting to see when the 7th one is released. so I just been really thinking a 8th one as another oil tanker could go along with the 7. and just as a alternative from the 6th one as that was from bwba and some might of been disappointed with that. so I just was thinking a second troublesome oil tanker could be a option just use the current oil tanker with the logo and put a face on it and call it a day. that's just a thought I've had for the last several weeks.

but we'll see.

I'm trying to think of the best way to word this without being it sounding wrong. You don't need to make a new thread for items you are requesting that's what the Future Suggestions thread is for. Also you may need to be mindful of everything you are requesting. There's been around 50 items you've requested over this month and that's fine but not all of it is going to be made. Products take time to make and honestly if Bachmann took only your suggestions for products they'd been releasing up to 2060. Maybe focus on a top 5 you really want? It's unlikely RWS characters will be made, even more unlikely Trainz only characters and rolling stock will be made. Honestly out of these probably the one that's most likely is Samson, while most of the model era engines fall into that "how well will they sell to a general audience." We are die hard fans who will buy anything but unfortunately you need to think of what others will buy and how well they'll sell and how well they'll fit into the range. Last thing anyone wants is to see Bachmann take a risk on a product for it not sell well with the general public and then that item be discontinued. It's why there's alot of Discussions around how well Rebecca is selling and how that could effect the next tender engine introduced, if there even is one introduced. In a perfect world everything could be made but unfortunately it's not a perfect world and production costs, how well items sell are a major thing. As I say maybe focus on a top 5 or something. Requesting everything just leads to Disappointment.

Upon thinking about this even more they could really be good
Last year NMRA (and in general) we got 5 HO items for the Thomas line announced.
So if 5 or 6 is the average
Then Judy Jerome and maybe a  faceless version from the model era .
Along side the works unit coach in green orange and blue colors
These would fit the 5 or 6 for 2025
For N scale which has a backlog Edward is a good idea . Given how they left out the wagons with loads in the catalog and only did the ones without them  I think they are trying to focus on getting the huge N scale backlog done . Edward I think still has a good chance since it's the 80th .
For narrow gauge I could see a new wagon type being announced .  the wooden short plank wagons have a good chance . In addition fans have been requesting  the red coach from the model era so I could also see that happen .

GordonPacific04

Not sure if anyone has brought this up yet, but after the Express coaches come out for N scale, I would LOVE to see Bachmann make a starter set with N scale Gordon, and his composite and brake coaches. Pretty much exactly how the HO scale one was back in the day.

You cannot view this attachment.

We got an Emily passenger set, and N scale Gordon seems to be selling really well. I know sets that don't have thomas don't do as well, and it will definitely cost a bit more, but this is something I would love to break into N scale with.
Fantasising of Bachmann Hiro, Harvey, Diesel 10, Whiff, Rocky, The Works Unit Coach, and Large Scale Edward.

Awesometrain77

This seems like a very good idea considering how well Gordon sells .
Bachmanns likes to do at least one new set per year
2019 Thomas Christmas set
2020 Thomas And the trucks se
2021 Thomas Christmas set
2022 N sale Percy set
2023 n scale Emily set
2024 DCC Thomas large scale set
2025 80th set

The n scale range has given other engines like Percy and Emily sets I could see Gordon getting a set .
As for some other ideas for sets

A narrow gauge set

DCC Thomas and Percy set HO scale - Thomas version of the Dignal commander set

N scale Christmas set

Halloween set

A Halloween set I think could be a super good seller .

Jake86

I was going to ask whether Bachmann would be interested in making Dennis Caroline Derek Fergus George Phillip Arthur Mollie Elizabeth horrid lorries Wiff Eleanor Judy Jim Thumper Lady in HO scale if you like the idea please let me know thanks

Hi I was wondering whether you would be interested in redesigning Gordon's composite and brake express coaches which had green doors white windows and black rooftops and were seen in series 2 from Thomas Percy and the Coal to Thomas and the Missing Christmas Tree 1986 in HO Scale in the future they only appeared in season 2 only however if you like the idea please let me know thanks

Jake86

I was going to ask whether you would be interested in redesigning Bachmann red composite and brake express coaches which had red doors white windows and black rooftops in series 2 design HO scale they appeared from episode Cows 1986 to Paint Pots and Queens 1994 series 4 they are also on Ollie's Railway Modelling Projects Facebook page if you like the idea please let me know thanks

Ok, we get you have requests that you'd want to see being made (and then of course so do we), and I'll have be the one to point this out without sounding harsh, BUT PLEASE understand from their business perspective that they can't make every single character that you yourself want to see be made. There's a lot of obstacles/hoops Bachmann have to jump through to get these characters/rolling stock made. You don't need to make a bajillion of public requests for characters that Bachmann hasn't gotten to yet. They know what we want, but it'll be up to them on whether or not that it'll be a worthwhile investment (heck, we've been wanting Stepney for years, but they're prioritizing the CGI based era since that's the one that's the most focused at the moment and thankfully not out of what we thought to be strictly contracted(forgot the word there?) by Mattel). Be patient if you can! Also not sure if you've realized, Thomas and Friends isn't the only brand they're working on/known for since they also got other HO brand models in their lineup to work with as well just in that scale alone! Like someone said earlier, take it a step at a time like a Top 5 for example, just so you won't be too disappointment if they don't announce at least one of your long-awaited wish/suggestions.

Awesometrain77

Moving on from that .

We have a chance to see  more RWS wagons in the future for the line .
Fred and Rickety are the first that come to mind as they were planned but got cancelled 20 years ago .

The ULP wagons are some iconic wagons that I could see being good sellers the ULP branding is seen on 2 types of wagons plank wagons and vans .

The FFQ wagon would also be nice and a cool addition to the line .

Along with that some wagons with the letters NW as a reference to the rev w awdrys layout could be nice to see.

For the engines that only appear in the books
I doubt any of them could happen .
However Stanley from the mid Sodor railway could be a repaint. As they make his basis but I feel smudger has way much of higher chance then him .

harrison05

If they were to make RWS engines (which I highly doubt will happen) I'd die for the Culdee Fell engines.
