If a person wants to extend the length of track that comes with a set, can additional pieces of EZ-Track be placed in the middle?

Yes, you can purchase additional pieces of auto-reversing track. For HO scale we have item nos. 44548 (9" straight) and 44549 (18" radius curve.)

What is the difference between 44548 and 44511, 44549 and 44501?

The '48 and '49 pieces have the wiring underneath for completing the autoreverse electrical connections. Standard EZ-Track does not.

You can use regular ez-track, but you need to use a wire to connect the extra conductor on the bottom of the auto reversing track through to the end of the track segment.
