Hello, first post here:

Our club was recently donated a No. 90105 Emmett Kelly Jr. Circus train set. This is one of the old battery powered ones. One of the brackets that hold the backhead in place snapped off. Since we didn't have any plastic cement on hand, I set it off to the side to glue it back together at a later date. However it appears someone at the club threw it out, not knowing what it was. What is the part number for this and where could I obtain one?

Hi, The set is very old and there are no parts available.  Unless you can find a way to improvise you are out of luck. Some members I know just used another 4-6-0 to pull the circus cars.  some also painted the locomotive and tender black and parked it by their engine house as a non operating display item.

Find an old loco for cheap and take the part, paint as needed.

Alright thanks, what I feared. We now four or five of them (all of them at least 30 years old) and none of them work. I've said at this point if we want one that works, we're going to have a buy a modern example.

Well, the best thing is probably get a new chassis from Bachmann with the much improved drivetain

Stephen,  Do not get a new chassis for those old C cell battery R/C 4-6-0s.  The chassis for sale is not compatible with it. Get a more modern 4-6-0 use my chassis ID method to insure you are buying a Version 5 chassis. Any version 5 chassis is OK.  If you are buying on Ebay be sure there is a photo of the bottom of the chassis and the ID description fits.

I know it does not just bolt in, you have to mod the loco, but I was under the impression it was the custom painting of the Emmett Kelly loco and associated cars that make the unique circus train that was to be retained.

If it was just any old battery operated big hauler, I would have advised to throw it away and start over with a nice used loco of non-battery vintage.

Looking at the paint job on the loco, perhaps an "ordinary" Big Hauler could be painted to match...
