Awesome, Thanks for the suggestions. I will look into getting another throttle for the system!

Hunt, your correct. It is a Bachmann Spectrum engine that I added an MRC sound decoder in.
Thanks for the suggestions.

The DCC controller I have, the Digitrax DC-50 only seems to be able to access functions 0-8 on my sound decoders. I wanted to change the whistle type which is F-24 (If I remember correctly) on the decoder. Is there any way to do this with this controller? If not what are my options without putting out a bankroll of money?
Thanks.

Got the sound dcc decoder soldered in and the tender back together. Hooked it up to the engine and back on the track and it worked perfectly. Thanks for everyones help.

You will find this to be informative.

Note, the capacitors are marked C1 and C2,

Yep, my board is different, it is a micro-circuit board.

^From what you are telling me i am seing NO capacitors, No resisters, and no diodes, Just the inductors, now if it makes a differecne (probably not) it is the Santa Fe #2526 that came with the  Santa Fe Exlorer Set.

Mine is different also. It is a micro-circuit boad with the components computer soldered in. No obvious caps visible. This is in the Baldwin 2-8-0 Western Maryland tender. There is another board that is heat shrink wrapped and attached by a plug to the center of the main board. I'm not going to cut away the heat shrink to see what is inside.

You may or may not have erratic running behaviour once you install the decoder. You should cut the capacitors on the Bachmann circuit board.

Pacific Northern, are they the four black box-like units hard soldered on the board or the heat shrinked unit wired into the board.
Also, which of the 6 wires coming into the tender are the voltage pickups from the engines wheels?

It looks like my diagram is different then that r0bert linked to, mine didn't show the chassis removal screw.

there is a screw in the bottom near the front truck

Thank r0bert, that was it. You rock! Don't know how I missed that on the diagram!

I have a Bachmann HO Baldwin 2-8-0 consolidated engine and tender (Western Maryland #766) and am trying to install an MRC steam sound decoder in it. I can't figure out how to open the tender to install it. I've released the two tabs under the chassis in the rear, but there is something else holding the body on inside that I can't find. I even pulled out the coal load to look. Can anyone with this engine who has disasembled their tender before help me out? Thanks in advance.

HO / Re: Two engines and DCC

Its a Digitrax Zephyr all in one system. There is a CD that came with the system that describes operation. It is still all a bit over my head, but slowly sinking in. So the encoder would need to be programed on one of the engines to get it to go in the same direction as the other engine? You can't run the Shay and the Baldwin double headed, as the Shay is geared much lower and very slow.

HO / Two engines and DCC
February 09, 2010, 05:59:49 PM
I have two Bachmann engines, a 3 truck Shay and a Baldwin 2-8-0, both with DCC. The Shay runs one direction on the track, when I put the Baldwin on it goes in the opposite direction. Is there something I need to change on the engines to get them running in the same direction when the throttle is in Forward control or is the is DCC setting that needs changed? These both came with factory installed DCC.
Thanks for any help.
