I have both cork roadbed and Woodland Scenics foam roadbed on my layout.   As much as I like Woodland Scenics, I'll never use their roadbed again.  Cork is much, much better.
I'd suggest a reasonably thin sheet of foam insulation under the track.  This has the advantage of being easily cut for streams, underpasses, and such.

Can you list the advantages that you found using cork rather than  the roadbed

Adding about 1/2 ounce of weight inside the tender will help. Place the weight in the cavity over the front truck.

Bend the drawbar up or down so it floats in the middle of the tender post. Secure the drawbar to the post by slipping on a short length (1/8") of 1/16" inside diameter silicone fuel tubing.

HO / Bachman cable plugs
March 31, 2009, 10:46:35 AM
Bachman engines have two plugs--a four and two pin

The four goes to the motor and the light --I think

What is the two pin--does it connect  the engine drivers to the tender circuits

If so then than the cable can be eliminated by connecting the two pin to the four pin at the engine --correct

I know this would negate DCC and sound but the cable is bugging me more and more

Well I loosened the drawbar screw where it attaches to the engine --that seemedto do the trick as it runs OK now--I think I will also ream out the drawbar hole some

HO / 2-8-0 cable
March 30, 2009, 04:43:27 PM
Well I got the 2-8-0 with sound instead of installing a decoder in my original 2-8-0 as I said I would

Only problem the cable is so stiff the tender wheels won't stay on the track --it rides too high in the front

Before I try and ream out the drawbar hole are there any other suggestions ?

HO / DC and DCC track

I read about DC track and DCC track

Is there some kind of difference in layout design
