Always wanted a C&O 2-8-0 and never got around to getting one, too late now.

Don't be so sure. trainworldonline.com. I got one around the turn of the new year for eighty bucks. They're still listing them - the latest series, with DCC onboard.

Select Bachmann - Steam locomotive - N Scale. Then go to last listing of last page.

Gee,  I guess I was real fortunate to pick up two of them [with DCC on board] in the last two weeks on that auction site.  Got them for minimum bid of $65.00 each.  Some of the prices there just defy logic.

The PRR fans and cool their jets, you can put the K4 requests on hold for a while....Broadway has finally put a hard date on the arrival of the M1's so you will have something road specific to play with. The M1's are due by the 2014 Hollidays, only 10 years after they were first announced.

Yeah, and I'm glad I didn't hold my breath.

I looked at these and wanted to buy them but didn't because of the coupling distance between units.  I run other cowl units in ABBA configurations and my Lifelike FA/B 1's, ER sharks, MP FP'7 [AA configuration] and Kato F7's all couple up nice and close to the point that they are almost touching.  I use the Unimate couplers on all these units.  Still from what I have seen and read this is not possible with the Bachmann units.  Does anyone have a suggestion?

Depending on who you talk to the MP steamers seemed to be somewhat of a mixed bag.  I don't own any so have no dog in that fight.

On the other hand I have been really impressed with the quality of the Bachmann steam products.  The original 2-8-0 was an eye opener for sure and now the addition of DCC for it as well as the 2-6-0, 4-6-0, 2-8-8-4 and heavy 4-8-2 [those are the ones I own] have made Bachmann the numero uno N scale steam locomotive manufacturer.

In regard to the 4-6-2 Pacific type locomotive, I would love to see a PRR K4.  Yeah, I know the subject has almost been beaten to death but let's face it the Minitrix K4 sold extremely well for being a marginally reliable locomotive.   It is no longer being made but demand for them still remains high.   I would like to think that a K4 along with a USRA Pacific would both be doable given that the majority [not all, of course] of parts would be interchangeable.

Are repair parts available for the N scale Peter Witt streetcar?  If not, when are they expected?

N / Why not a PRR K4 like the HO one?
December 02, 2012, 01:25:27 PM
Lots of people would like to see this come to pass.   With all the other RR specific steamers out that have been produced lately there really isn't a reason why we do not have a good running K4.   Bachmann is the one I would like to see do it.  Make it as good running as your HO model

HO / Re: K4 problems

reversed the wheelsets in the tender trucks and all works well now.  This engine seems to be very intolerant of track deficiencies.  In fact it is more intolerant than any of my N scale equipment.  It seems the slightest issue will cause it to derail.  I run it on the HO track included in my Liberty Belle On30 set.  There is a rail joiner missing between two pieces of curved track and the locomotive will derail everytime at that spot.

HO / K4 problems
November 24, 2012, 11:05:56 AM
Had problems with the tender of my K4 always derailing.  Determined that the problem was interference with the wiring between the tender and the locomotive.  I bought this locomotive on line at a well known hobby store/etailer but it was apparently a return because there were no instructions or parts list/diagram with it.

In any event in my attempt to 'fix' the problem the tender trucks which provide electrical pickup for the decoder were removed and later placed back.  What I don't know is if the trucks were replaced the same way or were replaced with the pickups reversed.  Does this make a difference or does the decoder sort that out?  The engine will not run now so I want to know if that is the problem or should I look for something else.

N / Re: How 'bout USRA hoppers?
October 25, 2012, 10:12:50 AM
What is missing is the rebuilt channel side hoppers.  Thousands of 2 bay rib side and offset side hoppers were rebuilt with a "U" or "C" channel exterior post and enabled these cars to continue in service into the 50's, 60's, 70's and in some instances longer, especially in MOW service.  Sell them in packs of ten with no trucks or couplers [so the modeler can add his own preferred brand]

Dear Skip,
We will indeed have new announcements at NMRA.
Thanks!

Well, hopefully a PRR K4 will be one of the announcements.

N / PRR K4????
December 19, 2010, 10:14:45 AM
How about it Mr. Bachmann, a PRR K4 in 2011?  You just came out with a GP7 which Atlas did  a fine job on.   I just bought four of the Atlas GP 7's at $45.00 each.   Most, if not all of the popular locomotives [like the GP7/9] have been done already.   So why no K4?  The field is wide open for you.  A well designed, good running K4 would have no competition and with the recent additions of heavyweight passenger cars a truly passenger steam locomotive would fill a void.  So how about it Mr. Bachmann, a K4 in 2011????

Dear Keith,
It was, and we can hope the Scale line will follow suit...
Have fun!

Seems like getting a straight answer from the Bachmann is a waste of time.  Surely someone at Bachmann knows whether there will be a "T" shank.   As for me I have seen these couplers on the 70 ton switcher and their size makes me say thanks, but no thanks!  I'm sticking with the Micro Train's.

Dear Ink,
The new couplers are being applied to new equipment. They should be individually available sometime next year.
Have fun!
the Bach-man

But will they be available with a "T" shank, a coupler box, and/or different shank lengths?   Like I said before we do not need a clone of the McHenry N Scale coupler. Yes, McHenry does make an N scale coupler but with no coupler box, no "T" shank and only one shank length [the same length as the MT and Accumate couplers].   It is good only as a replacement for MT's or Accumates.   That is why I said we do not need a clone of the McHenry coupler.

While you are at it how about finding out if the new coupler will be offered with a coupler box and  a short shank version as well as a "T" shank.   If not, we might as well stick with the McHenry's as we don't need a clone.

This does not look good.  A week has gone by and no response from Mr. Bachmann.   This does not look good.
