Snow?  What's that?  😂. Never saw it till I was 10, then it was 1" that melted by 3 o'clock.  It may have snowed here at most 4 or 5 times since ,  all the same 1" deal.  Accordingly I have no snow plows on my railroad.

Now, AUGUST down here.  THAT'S a different story!🔥🔥☄️💥😱😨😮😵😅
I feel sorry for you. Once in my area somewhere between 6 to 8 years ago we got like 3 feet of snow... At my age, the only thing sticking out was my face lol
Here, take a look. It was just my luck I ended up in MD, which as far as I know got the most snow. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/February_5%E2%80%936,_2010_North_American_blizzard#United_States

Are you going to replace it with a different layout?

Out of curiosity, what would you consider to be a "heavy" freight car?

Neat little cars there. I've never seen self-driving train cars before. Maybe there's just some second loco I'm missing.

I would suggest switching to EZ Track, because, as its name implies, it makes setup and alignment easy. However, depending on whether or not the old track has the same plug in terminal, you may need to purchase a more modern power pack/transformer/cord.

This could possibly be caused by poor quality track, or maybe your axles are not aligned correctly. What track are you using? EZ Track?

Is the shell the only thing moving, or is the whole locomotive moving?

Are the coaches similar in length to the 85' smooth side cars? I have some of those, and they generally work decently on 18' curves, however, they do look a bit unrealistic.

I was looking at it on the parts store, and noticed that they sold separate couplers that should fit the Acela.

Also, Mr. Bach man, the picture for the Acela loco shell #2018 is a picture of #2017 just so you know

If you looked on the parts store for a discontinued locomotive, say the EM-1, and bought all the parts and put them together, would you have a working locomotive? If so, would it work WELL?

I have no idea. Maybe you could try to contact the service department.

I had a similar problem with my 2-6-2 (which is now an 0-6-0) when I had lighted coaches on the track. I believe that the coaches were using up most of the power, as the coaches would dim when the locomotive started moving. I'm still not sure what causes this, but for me it only occurs sometimes, and if I feed slightly more power to the track it usually starts fine.
