Well, the 2013 range is here... a bit disappointing, but hey, we got a certain third pair of twins. ;)
I think for the introduction of a completely new line of products, this year's announcements are pretty darn good if ya ask me! The sound-equipped Thomas just tops it all off for me! I've had my current one since 2008 and the motor tends to go every once in a while, so now I have a valid excuse to get a new Thomas (;

I can't even tell you how excited I am about the sounds Thomas, never mind the other announcements. Honestly don't really know why. I suppose maybe because years ago I had thrown that idea out there and it was instantly shot down by some of the previous members of the site, but eh  ::)

I'd honestly like to see a Large Scale Fergus. It'd be pretty interesting to see, but obviously it's not very likely to happen :P

Thanks :) The layout actually will be looped. Here's a picture of the tentative plans for those interested:

As you can see, Tidmouth's track layout differs from the original plans. Honestly don't care, as I'm basically just going with it as I go :P

Thank you! :) Actually, it's a 10x12, not a 10x21, but that'd be pretty awesome if it was! :P

I wasn't planning on posting this project here for another month or two, but I changed my mind :P I have stripped my layout down to nothing and restarted. It will be a 10x12 layout, and I've recently laid the track on my former 5x10 layout.

January 27th: Majority of Tidmouth's trackwork laid, station platforms marked off.

January 28th: Leads from both ends laid, through tracks laid, donor signal box in place (will be replaced with a Metcalfe signal box), signals temporarily in place, and Arlesburgh Branch platform marked off. Ignore the clutter along the right side. Had to move everything on the floor while I tore the previous layout apart, and had to put everything back on the layout so the entire room could be rearranged before the rest of the benchwork gets built :P

Haven't laid more track and such as I've yet to extend the benchwork and level out this board, as there is a prominent dip in the center when looking at the layout at eye level. It'll be a big project, but hopefully it will basically be completed by May or June and the series can re-air this summer. More updates coming soon :)

Thomas & Friends / Re: Could this be the next special?

I know many people, including myself, aren't very impressed with Arc's animations for the new movie. But let's put a few things into perspective here:

1. We don't know where the trailer came from, i.e. how and where it was found. It could have been an pre-production draft. Not likely, but possible.
2. The movie isn't due to air for another seven-eight months. Again, this also means the trailer could have included clips not seen in the final product.
3. All of the other productions I've ever seen from Arc are fabulous: high quality, smooth rendering, beautiful graphics and details. I don't understand why the company would slack off in the production of "the world's best loved pre-school boys' brand"'s newest film. That doesn't make much sense (if any).

I still have some hope for this movie. Maybe it will turn out better in the end.

I also must point out that the chassis looks different to the Scottish twins chassis...the wheels look smaller,  and it's longer at the back.  I don't know  :P
I think the actual wheel set is the same, but the chassis itself was probably extended to accommodate the longer body.

Thomas & Friends / Re: Arthur's Class
November 08, 2012, 03:38:26 PM
The only issue I find with that is Arthur has the LMS lettering on his tanks, and the Ivatt 2MTs survived during the Big Four, not the 3MT or the BR's standard class 2  :-\ I do agree though that Arthur resembles the BR's version of the class better than the original.

*EDIT: It seems maybe as though HiT made a mistake when creating Arthur. If you compare Arthur to the photos in the link provided by TRI, Arthur and the Standard 2 seem identical. HiT may have made the mistake of giving Arthur an LMS livery when he is truly a BR locomotive.

Toby lives at Aresdale End.
In the TV series, yes. But he actually lives at Ffarquar along with Thomas, Percy, and Daisy according to the RWS and the Awdrys. I'm sure you already knew that, but I felt the itch to say it anyways :P

Thomas & Friends / Arthur's Class
November 04, 2012, 09:57:41 PM
There has been a lot of controversy over whether Arthur is an Ivatt Class 2 tank or a BR Class 3 tank. It can only be assured that Arthur is an Ivatt Class 2. Yes, he does closely resemble a 3MT in several ways, but there is one main detail that proves he is an Ivatt Class 2: Arthur is an LMS locomotive. The first ten of the Ivatt Class 2's were built by the LMS before nationalization. The BR Class 3's were built at Swindon Works, ex-works of the GWR, after nationalization. Henceforth, Arthur is indeed an Ivatt Class 2, NOT a BR Class 3.

This has been on mind for some time now, and I thought I'd just shout it out there :P

I believe the motorized turntable is fully compatible with Tidmouth Sheds. One of the administrators can probably answer that question :)

I doubt Arc has started animating yet if Brenner is still writing, it may just be illustrators sticking to what they know.
Brenner took over as head writer in 2010, and season 17 is slated to be aired in the fall of next year, so I'd imagine that Arc has a good amount of the animations done.
